Yeah an "open world" scares me from a level design aspect.

I wonder who is doing the music?
My hopes are up for Hans Zimmer

Or the usual Harry Gregson Williams

"Open World" concerns--I second that. And as Reinhardt said, I hope there's some legit CV references in the enemies/music here and there.

I have no open world concerns.  I'm always happy to see Castlevania stretch its legs a try out a new style of gameplay.

Well "open world" could mean stunted platforming, but it could also mean a greater variety to locale.

Open world doesn't translate to stunted platforming.
While everything will be connected in one way or another specific areas are still areas and will have their own design.

I don't want GoW with vampires.

This is what I'm worried about.

Story-wise, they have two routes in pertaining to the usual timeline - either a game between Lament of Innocence and Dracula's Curse, before Trevor, with a new Belmont taking up the whip against vampires in general (doesn't need to be Dracula).....or, this is taking place *before* Lament and the Belmont's involvement at all and is the story of someone else's war against vampires (as it's been established there were plenty of vamps before Mathias/Dracula and Castlevania existed beforehand)

Personally, if we're deviating from any other games in the series, I'm hoping they go with the latter idea. Having the Belmont's as the only family with a feud against vampires does seem rather odd. If we have someone else who took up the mantel before the Belmont's ever came into play, I could see this happening and have no real problem with it.

As much as the visuals and voices impress me, I can't but help stare at the severely flat, arena-style settings that plagued the last few games.
A wild Ralph appears.
Wild Ralph uses Teleport.

I haven't felt so excited over a trailer since Nintendo unveiled (what was to be) Twilight Princess.

Seriously, that was awesome. Here's hoping that this is a success.

I am stoked!

That trailer nearly brought a tear to my eye, especially when the logo came up at the end to confirm it all (even though I already knew).

It's weird that the story has nothing to do with the current timeline, but the apparent gameplay, setting and drama was able to do that to me.

I am very excited to know more about this mask that's supposed to bring the dead back, as it sets up the plot nicely.
