I remember Lelygax made a thread once if which he theorized the parts that fly away when you kill Dracula were actually his body parts. Seems he was right on the money about that.

Also, it's kind of poetic in an ironic way Akamatsu suffered the same fate IGA did many years later. Seems like it's off to the gulags if you're no longer making Konami any money.

Interesting read.

Quote
For example, Akamatsu said that the whip was the primary weapon in the series because he was a fan of the Indiana Jones movie Raiders of the Lost Ark

So it wasn't because they couldn't animate a sword like others had claimed. Sounds right to me.

Dang, can you imagine what is must be like to see a popular and highly rated Netflix show based on a game you made over 20 years ago and caused your demotion and eventual resignation from Konami? It reminds me of certain films, such as Labyrinth, Office Space, or Rocky Horror. All were commercial flops when they were first released, but now they are "cult classics" that are appreciated far more now than when they were first released. It also makes me wonder how differently the series would have evolved if the NES games sold more copies and the original creators stayed onboard for the 16-bit era.

Hmmm... that's a good writing exercise for a parallel world.

Not me tho. I'm busy writing weird Sailor Moon alien fanfics.

That was kinda sad to read tbh.  Kinda sucks that the guy that made my favorite game in the franchise got treated that way.  Considering how they treated IGA eventually though, I guess that’s par the course for Konami unfortunately.

Yeah it's beginning to sound like Konami didn't "turn abusive" over the years... more like they always were and only the degree got worse as time went on.
How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

Chances are they were doing the gambling machine business before they opted to take part in game design.

The music for the 16-bit games would sound like the stuff Kinuyo Yamashita composed for the Wily Wars and the SNES Power Rangers game.

And it would sound TOTALLY COOL.
