The Genesis/MD is probably my favorite console of all time. Took a look at a few unlicensed games, holy heck:
Earth Defense:
A vertical schmup with IK graphics, OK gameplay, decent music and five stages, but decent customizability in the options for an unlicensed game. Picked it up brand new for $6, works fine on a US model 1 Genesis, but not the model 3.
Divine Sealing:
VERY basic graphics, horrible water effects, very colorful, another vertical schmup but this one has cutscenes and a plot(all in Japanese) and... Hentai :-X yes this game is famous for its cutscenes. That being said, the art is pretty damn good, especially for an unlicensed game. In game graphics, like I said are very basic, but very appealing. The gameplay is decent too IMO, and it feels like a very stereotypical old school game, just with its... Interesting cutscenes lol. BTW, the soundtrack is pretty damn good!
Rock man X3:
Yes, some dudes ported Megaman X3 to the Genesis, and I can't judge it that well because the emulator I used has TONS of graphical glitches that I didn't see from researching YouTube vids that may have been using either a better emulator or the real system. The gameplay is really fun, the controls take a bit of time to get used to, but the graphics are great (taken from the SNES game), the music is arguably bad but it is Megaman music on the genesis(I think it's good), and I'd definitely say it's worth getting. It is cheap on eBay, so I may pick it up, just worried it won't play in my US system(I'm 99.9% sure unlicensed games don't have region locking, but it could be anything that could keep it from running).
Brave Battle Saga:
I'm not a fan of turn based RPGs. Turns out I'm a HUGE fan of this game. BBS is a gem of a title that deserved more exposure back in the day. I feel like if they approached a publisher, they could've gotten this off the ground because it's pretty impressive. You have a big world, a good narrative, and party members, each with their own Sprite and attacks/attributes(Tim uses swords and daggers, Cherie uses bows, Iforgothername uses a staff etc.) graphics are extremely colorful and detailed, the soundtrack is amazing, the gameplay is a more fast paced RPG(at least from what I've been exposed to in this genre) and its really fun and interesting. Plus the story ain't no slouch, despite being told in a more simple manner than your Final Fantasies or Earthbounds, but after the first boss battle, the cutscene that follows will really make you hate everyone in the first village and feel bad for our protagonist. If anyone else isn't exactly a turn based RPG fan, I highly recommend this title. You get money and XP very quickly and it's more fun than other ROGs I've played. It's like Phantasy Star 4, another one I love, because of its fast pace. Did I mention I love the artwork 8)

Beware with Rockman X3, since as far I know it can't be finished.
-
The graphic problems in Rockman X3 can't be solved; It's not something like bad ROM dump, just the inner problem of the pirated/unlicensed port itself.
This version of Rockman X3 can't be beaten (Final stages are not implemented, set in the same stage ID as normal stages)
X's armor is that of X1 full armor, with unlimited air dash function (The motion itself is just like real X3 though) Buster is like the one without arm upgrade in X1, but with error graphic palette that I even thought X became Evil X/Maverick and shot evil energy spheres
The character movement sometimes jiggle back and forth, without clear response of real X3
The screen border is grabbed from Sega Saturn version of X3
Bosses have no invincible time unlike real X3 so player can machine gun bosses to death
The heart (Life Max Up) is still present if player re-enter the stage after picking one so players can keep picking Life Max Up until the screen takes some heroine and game crashes
This is really the ball-fucking level pain because the bad porting quality, but it's actually fun to see Mega Man X on drug :P

Hm I didn't know that. Thanks for the heads up, I'll just leave it to the Ouya lol, and leave MMX3 to the Saturn once I pick that port up

That meakes sense. Doesn't surprise me though since it is just a pirate. I think I had too much faith in it lol. I'll be honest, I'm not very familiar with the X games, but I didn notice some of the things you pointed out, like the unlimited dash and the lack of boss invincibility (can't complain about those lol).
Speaking of the Saturn port, I REALLY wanna pick that up once I get some extra cash, along with X4 for Saturn (seriously, X4 looks fucking beautiful on the Saturn from what I've seen). I'll pick up the original on SNES too of course. I used to have X Collection for PS2 but I've misplaced it about a year ago :'(
-
How about Pier Solar the latest rpg unlicensed game, I played once and liked a lot Maybe someone could make another platform game (my favourite genre) in the future I would love to play a port of Maldita Castilla in my sega genesis 2.

Try Megaman 8 for the saturn too, it's by far superior to the PSX version in many ways

This was the case in Mega Man and Mega Man 2 for the NES. I kinda miss that pummeling the boss to death. It felt more satisfying. Especially when they've pissed you off, lol.

Howso?
I thought the psx version was pretty clean.

There's also Super Bubble Bobble MD which is a pirate original version of Bubble Bobble for the Mega Drive/Genesis (er, obviously lol).

Some different music in certain places, and two optional bosses that are not well hidden, and are from Mega Man 1 and 2 (Wood and Cut Man). Perhaps framerate as well might be a little better on the Saturn.

Played the PS1 version on anniversary collection and thought it was really good. If I had to choose between playing it on the PS or Saturn, I'd choose Saturn by default cus of that gamepad.... Love it 8). Plus it's a more obscure platform, so owning it for Saturn would be cooler. I assume it's better graphically and it plays a little better?

You'd hope so, SS' handled 2d games much better for the most part. Street Fighter Alpha series comes to mind for one.

The Saturn was quite the 2D beast, which is sad that the Sega of America president didn't wanna see a lot of 2D games released over here. There were still 2D games being played. Reading things about the SoA pres at the time, he reminds me of Don Mattrick at the beginning of the XB1's life.

I didn't even get to experience it until the tail end, and even so, I didn't know what a Dreamcast was until I was 6 or 7 (I was 3 in 1998), and by that time it was practically dead. Ah, what would've happened if SEGA was still in the console market. A shame that a concatenation of infighting and stubborn out-of-touch CEOs lead to their demise.
-
I always kind of wanted Sega to get back in the console business, but after seeing the faults of this gen (which will likely carry into the next, even stronger), I don't think I really want that anymore.
-
Capcom really knew how to use Sega's Hardware, Megaman 8 for the saturn had a better chiptune soundtrack with a much better Tenguman theme, on to of that there were slightly more Bolts to collect Cutman and Woodman were great additions to be a more definitive 10th anniversary title. All the fighters on the Saturn outleagues the PSX, MvC didn't load between fights, usually they all had smoother animations and SFA3 was a perfect port from the arcade, not to mention the Saturn Controller was ideal for fighters.
It really parallels to Konami since SotN could have been amazing on the saturn, but I think it's the lack of understanding the hardware is what really held it back

I agree with most of this but SF Alpha 1 is only arguably better on the Saturn. If memory serves, there were animation issues when they were doing shadow moves/ supers. The SS version's shadows ended up being the same colour as the characters but slightly more transparent rather than the traditional dark blue colour of the shadows that SFA shared with SSFIIT. For the rest of the fighters I've only seen videos of the SS versions and played the PSX versions (as well as the ps2 version of Alpha 3 on anthology) and SS>PSX seems to be the common consensus.
Also SOTN was initially released on PSX, so even though it was a 2d game it was built using a 3d engine. The game being ported to SS rather than built for it added to the fact that the SS wasn't as strong as a 3D console was the issue. If SOTN was built from the ground up for the SS I don't think people would dislike it as much as they seem to now.

Completely agree, funny how a 32x game gets reworked for the PSX just to fall short on the Saturn.
If SSoTN were built on a 2D engine with some Arcade pseudo-3D, SSoTN would have been outright superior, but this was a day when Consoles were Apples to Oranges and developing for each console was rather different, also surprised that SoTN didn't see a dreamcast version either, that would have been amazing
-

Makes sense, since a lot of PSX games were coming to Dreamcast. Maybe because it has already been released for Saturn? I don't recall any game that was ported from PSX to Saturn and then to Dreamcast too.
Someone here have played Soul Reaver on Dreamcast? I'm thinking here now if it is superior in some way...

MvC was never on the Saturn, it was on the Dreamcast. You may be thinking Marvel Super Heroes Vs Street Fighter and X-Men Vs Street Fighter (that one I have, it's still affordable), neither game has load time after the initial loading at the start. SF Zero 3 was nice on Saturn, but the voices were compressed and didn't sound as nice. The PS2 version is the affordable way to afford the game these days (Alpha Anthology), you don't get Reverse Dramatic Mode (a nice mode) or World Tour (I don't care for that part) on the PS2 version, but it has the mode I do love, Survival Mode (a mod in KoF games I love too, easiest way to unlock hidden characters). The Saturn Zero 3 goes for insane amounts of money these days, yet stuff like Vampire Savior, which also has no loading, goes for next to nothing (thankfully, I got it dirt cheap, and also have the PS2 Darkstalkers Collection as well).
Vampire Hunter (Darkstalkers Revenge) is also good, but it has load times.

I played Soul Reaver as I used to borrow a mate's Dream Cast now and again.
I don't really recall the PSX or SS (if there was one) version, but I did believe at the time the DC was superior.
I also initially thought that SFIII 3rd Strike was awesome on the DC, but apparently there's significant frame drops that don't allow certain combos to chain (especially with Yun). They call it the bastardised version.
Mvc2 was the best on DC though, like peanut butter smooth, zero slow down which you get on the ps2 version.
-
The only time I've ever run into slowdown on MvC 2 PS2 is when I've finished off 2 characters at the same time with one super move to end a fight. Other than that, have never run into it.

In the ps2/xbox version after a fight is over and you press the 1p button to bash the opponent's lifeless ko'd body while hitting them enough times the game slows down. I recall specifically doing Wolverines super during this time and the game does suffer some slowdown. DC's version was flawless in that regard.
Not sure how the psn/360 version compares because it's been so long, but it seems better than ps2/xbox but I assume it's better as it's been used in tournaments probably due to the scarcity of DC's.
It's also common knowledge among fighting enthusiasts and competitors that for example magneto's triangle jumps are the same as arcade on DC, among other reasons the DC remains the arcade perfect port of mvc2.

So good, that it posted twice eh, haha.
Personally as I've said, it hasn't happened to me as I don't tend to use Wolvy, may have to give it a go and do his super after, I tend to love rubbing salt in the wound of friends in this game, and the other Marvel titles that allow this.

MvC2 would have been perfect on PC, but now all my MvC dreams are in a trash can. THANKS DISNEY.

Mobile posting does that sometimes, don't know why.
Do you use xbox or ps2?
Something about the graphics as well, DC's were different. The PS2 had more vibrant colours but the graphics didn't seem as clean to me. Although I was jumping with joy when the PS2 version was released because I didn't need a DC to play it.

Yes agreed and there's many more effed up things that Disney does.

PS2, don't want an X-Box, and once had a DC that would overheat, and would one day like to pursue another to have all the US released Sega consoles.
MvC 2 on the PS2 was one I watched for years, it was always way too expensive, then the digital release came out, the value on the PS2 version dropped considerably (from around $80 at that time, to around $30 briefly). Hurried up and picked it up on the PS2, then it got delisted on PSN/XBLA, and that cheapness window closed up, and the game value went right back up for the PS2 version. I thank Capcom for releasing it digitally, as the value on the PS2 version had bottomed out, and I was able to finally get it for a fair price.

Xbox was good for emulation, including actual Xbox games. If it was't for Xbox I wouldnt have played COD which I'm glad I did. I was a student at the time and couldn't afford to buy it, so I hired it and the rest is history ;)

Really? It was never that expensive in AUD. I think maybe 60 AUD back in the day when it was released.
It sucks they've pulled it off PSN. At least I bought MVC Origins and MVC2 before it was too late.

It works great and the widescreen mod really helps, still, recently I've viewed emulation as a more last resort than anything.
The Ps2 version looks great and plays great on the (not so) almighty Potato.

Picked up Origins not long after it came out, first version of MvC 1 I have that has the tag mode intact, something my PS1 version doesn't have. Marvel Super Heroes is the icing on the sweet cake, shame this didn't see a physical release. As doe MvC2 on the PS2, indeed it was expensive at one time, and it is again.

Use FightCade for online play on PC, you can find someone almost all times of the day. ;)

MVSH is actually an awesome game. It's as much fun as MVC imo.
What would stop someone from doing a PS3 backup into a new PS3 with these games and MVC2 and just selling them at a higher pricetag?
These jewels are about to become extremely rare. UMVC3 new on ebay for 360 has gone up to 90 AUD.

I bought UMVC3, though not new, but in nice condition locally, $9.99. Only bought it because I had MvC 3 (given to me for free), played both once, beat them, retired them never to be touched again.

True, I could check the local stores but it's smacks of effort right now for one game.
I've actually been putting some collectibles to the side that I've been acquiring (not ones I've previously been given with sentimental value) that I'm storing in a safe place and hoping they'll go up in value eventually. I know that some will.
Recently I acquired a copy of Megaman X with a custom cover and two copies of PAL Super Castlevania IV (carts only).
