I own a PS4 and always turn it off after I'm done using it. This saves me a lot of headaches. And saves wear & tear on the system itself. I've had it for several years and it's still fine for me.
I'm doing the same, turn it off, pull the plug and keep it back in its box after using (can't allow the elements to ruin that shiny engraved surface).

How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.
From what Bloody Aperture is saying, his PS4 just kept doing things behind the scenes even after it was switched off.
Is Bloody Aperture actually killing the power or is he just putting the system on standby? I kill the power on mine therefore no mystery updates cause no power.
Again I say: I have owned the thing since six months after launch. I know the difference between standby and off.As long as it was plugged in, the damn thing could turn itself on no matter how "off" I knew it to be. So I ended up just yanking the power cord completely when it wasn't in use for no surprises.
