No more anime!

I was relieved to hear that Castlevania Order of Ecclesia's artwork will not be anime. After Dawn of Sorrow, I figured Konami would stop. I was unfortunately wrong. Portrait of Ruin was the 2nd Castlevania title in which anime would be used for the artwork. Well, apparently, after totally destroying two of my favorite Castlevania characters, Soma and Alucard, with new anime appearances, Konami finally stopped!  ;D

Actually Rondo of Blood was the first to use anime artwork, and after that Legends had anime.

Actually, if you count the original Akumajou Dracula, there was anime artwork inside the manual (if I recall correctly.)

It's not so much that it was anime -- There are fantastic artists in that field: superb artists -- It's that it was BAD anime. There wasn't an ounce of style you could recognize or identify with. It was just plain and devoid of subtlety or imagination.

And what's more, several sprites were made in a similar silly form.

DOS fared a bit better because at least it had the AOS characters to work with (and I like Yoko's new look over the old one actually), but POR gave us poor character design too.

Bad anime art and bad anime character design does not equal a good thing.

The style used in the Hellsing series would have been. acceptable.

Still, anime and Castlevania don't mix well. I'm glad that they're changing it! Soma looked like crap in Dawn of Sorrow.

Castlevania still very much uses anime. Ayami Kojima and Masaki are anime artists; they're just much more careful about it, and actually have style.

I was not a fan of the anime style for DoS and PoR.  I much prefer a dark, moodier and more gothic look.

I do like OoE so far from what I have seen.

Yeah, OoE's artist is fine with me. Also, I didn't mind CotM's art.

Yes there is heavy influence in the size of eyes and facial feature distance; as well as costumes and accessories, and skin tones in terms of Kojima's work.

Masaki's OoE work is totally in the vein of anime, as is Kojima's handheld portraits.

Oh yes, Masaki, definetely. I think that could actually be considered a form of anime. But I don't see as much in Kojima's...
