Of course, as long as it has good animation and voice actors. However, I think Simon's Quest would make a better series.

Yeah.... you're being too nice there. Most cartoons today prove to me that noone remembers how to DRAW anymore. Or quite simply they never had the talent in the first place.

I don't think it's that they can't draw, I just think every artist wants to have there own unique style.  So things end up stylized to the point of ridiculousness.

That's not just something that happens in cartoons. I'm finding a lot of movies, particularly horror movies, to rely on overly stylish camera techniques. Y'know, where almost every horror movie is shot with a blue lense filter and everybody looks like Smurfs? What ever happened to good old normal color, like what we see in real life? It's sickening when everybody tries to make an arthouse flick just because.

Yeah, one thing about cartoon style, cartoons aren't taken as serious as they once were. Where as some used to have realistic looking characters(G.I Joe), love for that has dropped considerably to favor more wacky and outlandish styles. I wouldn't say it's bad they tried something new, but it's bad that they totally shun the realistically porportioned cartoon characters of the 80s. That style died around the mid 90s with cartoons like Exosquad. I think, in a way, the trend shifted when cartoons started to get more campy. Now you have more cartoons that stress fart jokes and talk about poop and armpit hairs.

I have to hand it to Avatar for breaking this recent mold. Even though I find the show kinda boring, it looks awesome.

You can't copy a style, you can use it.  Where something is made has no bearing on how true to the style it is.  it is possible to make anime outside of Japan.

And avatar has better art then 90% of the anime shit that gets made.

It certainly has more animation frames being drawn.  It seems to be a nice blend where it takes the emotional facework of Anime, but also retains the fluid motion of Western 80's/90's animation.

What I mean by animation frames is, Anime and some other types of animations cut out a lot of frames by either using Action Lines with stills, or when it's comedy, by using en emoticon or having the characters become 'chibi' in order to illustrate humor or childish behavior.  In reality, these techniques were used in Japan originally to cut out the amount of frames one had to draw when a show was low-budget... but they've become such a staple, almost a 'part' of the art form itself, that it comes off as Cliche.

If you wanna talk about fully knocking-off Anime to the point of outlandish ridicule, Teen Titans is what you wanna look at.  There's only so many times you can put a sweatdrop on a character before you get tired of the damn thing.

Avatar's a rare case. It's still stylized to look like American Anime, but I actually liked watching the series. It seemed more deeper than your shallow cut-and-paste anime stories about giant robots and magical girls. Even those damned animes about humans being employed by spirit agencies to help aprehend evil/outlaw spirits/demons(Yu Yu Hakusho and Bleach). And last, don't forget all those horrible trend Animes made with soley to either capitalize on a gaming trend(Pokemon) or start gaming trends(all those damn card battle animes). Urgh.

It was interesting to see an Asian influenced world from an American standpoint rather than an Asian influenced world from an Asian standpoint(which is just, like, almost ever fantasy anime). It was pretty good in that sense, as well. Loved the art direction!

whoa whoa...don't bring down Yu Yu Hakusho to Bleach level. Im not saying bleach is a bad show...but i would watching Yu Yu reruns then endure an episode of bleach once over.

Anyway...im guessing that overly stylized cartoons means Chowder and Flapjack. While i must admit that flapjack the sickest shit on tv right now, i defend Chowder with my life. I feel that is a brilliant show.
