Because they're always incorrect in some regard and are generally written by people who don't really know what they're talking about.

Seriously. None of the original Castlevania games are on here. Both CV1 and CV3 are infinitely harder then most of these games, in my opinion. Especially to the untrained. Not to mention, according to this list, both God of War and Mega Man 9 are harder then DMC3? lol. There is no way I can see MM9 being justified as being number 4 imo.

While I admit I haven't played MM9 yet, I've played all the other original games and can beat most of them in under 2 hours with little issue.

If there's anything that would make me hate the classic Castlevania games, it most certainly isn't the games themselves; but rather, that ignorant fraction of their fanbase.

Right because you're the authority on which games are the top 25  ::)

You're being hypocritical and exactly like those top 25 list guys yourself.

The point is that it's almost impossible to create a real 'top 25 hard games' because there are far too many games to choose from and the reviewer in question undoubtedly has not played all of them, and while there is an objective standard to difficulty, when it gets to this point, objectivity becomes obscured into subjectivity.

Furthermore you miss the point that I referred to everything I said in my initial post as "in my opinion" or "I personally". That implies personal opinion and not an attempt at dictating objective standard.

Well, It was #3 if I recall correctly.

its not like these things are 100% true, I'm sure they do their research, they don't just pull random games out of the air. There are reasons to why they put them on here.

I think you just want to bitch, and thats all
What a horrible night to have a curse!

I'm surprised Mushihimesama Futari made that list as not many in the US have ever gotten a chance to play it (Cave tends to keep their games in Japan when it comes to consoles), some of the games I can agree with, others just don't have that old school beat you until you learn thing to them (Doom at 12 for example seems a lot harder than Call of Duty 4 at 11). Good to see the R-Type series get the respect it deserves for being a hard game, but where's Gradius 3 arcade, a game so difficult, it didn't last long in arcades (Konami quickly pulled them from arcades from what I've read over the years), this one could easily be #1 (not the SNES version which Konami toned down a bunch).

Good to see the GnG/Makaimura series make a strong showing too, but again it should've been ahead of Ninja Gaiden, unlike NG the enemies don't have to respawn to be a pain in the butt. NG only usually had them respawn if you moved ahead or moved back a little, GnG kept the enemies coming in a never ending stream. :D

I think it's kind of understood that these are the hardest games known to the list's creator....he isn't claiming they're the hardest games ever made.

But I do think it's kinda BS that he includes certain games on the hardest difficulty.  It's not exactly a level playing field if you're comparing Doom's toughest difficulty setting to Contra's default setting.  Put Shattered Soldier on Hard and it's far tougher than Doom's Nightmare mode.

Also, God of War?  Those games are fairly easy, even for somebody like me who gave up on DMC3 after a few levels.  Same with Portal - it's really short and pretty easy.  (Still brilliant though.)  But overall I don't have a problem with that list.  I find most of those games much tougher than CV1 and CV3.

I dunno, I went in looking at that list as if I never played any of those games before, and how difficult it was the first time playing them. So like something like Mega Man 9 would be an acceptable choice. The first time I played that game through, I couldn't make it through a level without getting at least one game over first. A game like Portal though only took me like 4 hours on my first play through. I thought it was real easy.
I would have liked to see Castlevania 1 make it on there. I still say that game is unforgivably hard. Another good one would have been The 7th Guest. Shit that game took me nearly 10 years to finally beat.

I actually find CV1 easier and more tolerable then CVIII, strangely enough, so while I agree with you I think I'd replace CV1 with III.

Some other hard games come to mind:
Tiger Road from Capcom
1943 from Capcom (seen a 1 credit clear, 1CC, of this game before)
Black Tiger from Capcom
Trojan from Capcom
Thunder Cross 1 & 2 from Konami

Yeah Capcom made plenty of hard games, just can't think of anymore off the top of my head right now that could make a top 25 list.

When it comes to hard games in the NES days, Capcom and Konami were like fuckin' viagra. Tradewest too.

this list is pitiful. Tetris? Portal? Guitar Hero? F-Zero GX? Call of Duty 4? (These are the ones striking me odd.)

I'm surprised they didn't list Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Pocky & Rocky 2, Star Ocean 2 on Universe, Final Fantasy 4 hardtype, ANY of the CV games, Battletoads and Double Dragon, Double Dragon 2, SMB: The Lost Levels, and of course....Maximum Carnage.

I do give them kudos to listing DooM on Nightmare difficulty. That shit's just wrong.

You can also add Irem to that list, though a majority of their really hard games were arcade games. If you saw an Irem game when it came time to buying one, you knew you were about to depart into a land of difficulty that would require tons of practice to get good at.

Indeed. Most of those games they mentioned aren't that hard if you're commited and know what the hell you're doing (Especially Mega Man 9.).

Most of the other games this forum listed tend to be ridiculously challenging even if you've practiced.

Speaking of which, Metroid Fusion has been a nervous wreck for me. It's like Resisdent Evil: Nemesis in space.
