He was bashing all 2D, not just the DS games.

He was bashing all 2D, not just the DS games.

"There are a whole host of reasons why we chose to change the look and the feel of the game, some of which I have already touched upon. If you think CV games haven't done well simply because of game play you are wrong I am afraid. The DS games have great game play in my opinion but people aren't buying them either. The visuals and the visual choices are not popular amongst the gaming public at large.

Video games have moved on, most people today like it or not are not interested in 2D games anymore. Peoples expectations are different now for 3D games too. They demand better and better quality visuals and they want games to see cutting edge visuals. Castlevania has not been able to deliver that now for whatever reason."

I fail to see the bashing. In fact, I think I even see a few compliments in there. Most of what I can see is logic based on sales trends of modern video games.

I always thought vampires preferred beautiful young men and women, and so they would go out of their way to drink their blood. Then the prettyboys and prettygirls turn into vampires. Simple as that. Super model vampires make perfect sense to me.

HOWEVER; I think that vampires should have an ugly side that comes through when they're angry, hence Dracula's transformation.

Anyway, it doesn't matter. I can totally see myself whipping that ugly vampires arse.

I didn't mind them much before, but these days, I can't stand the thought super model vampires. After all, it's difficult to avoid a certain sparkly vampire franchise anytime you bring vampires up anymore. I'll take a hideous "Diablo-like" monster vampires over sparkling prettyboys any day. Besides, like others have said, there's probably a reason why this particular fellow is so ugly and brutish, as opposed to more human-looking vampires.

As for Cox's answers, I don't see where he bashed 2D games. He never once bashed them. He just said people aren't interested in them anymore, and he's right. 2D games aren't so popular anymore.

theres no reason why that vampire cant be both. Theres nothin that says the vampires have just one form and one form only... Hell Drac himself usually has AT LEAST 2 forms if not more. Are you guys completely ignorant to the idea that vampires look mostly like humans til they get pissed off and "vamp out"?

A possible factor in this mind blowing riddle is that I was the one who asked if he was willing to answer some questions and kind off invited him to the Anti-chapel board.

Maybe.

No, that's actually exactly what I said. I like the idea of vampires having one pretty side, and one demonic & butt-ugly. And it's probably gonna be that way in LoS too. Which is good. If not, I will be slightly disappointed, but I'll obviously still play the game anyway. Even if all the vampires look like Diablo typecasts.

Yes, and not that I'm interested in petty rivalries over who posts where, but it's also a bit delusional and self-important to think the landscape of things is what it was, say, 4, 5, 6, or 7 years ago; as if this is the only place worth posting at. All one would really have to do is look around. People may have their favorites, and enjoy posting at one forum more than another, and that's fine. However, I would think that the legitimacy of another community with over roughly 130,000 more posts than this and top Google ranking for "Castlevania forum" is sort of hard to deny. Not that I mean any disrespect toward this forum; I'm sure it has its own qualities to offer.

The technical difficulties and IGN/Gamespy's forum debacle for the last 8 months to a year have certainly contributed to that problem.

This new forum will not be showing up on a Google Search any time soon.  Successor is correct in that a "Castlevania Forum" search brings his forums to the top of the search.  In the past, however, we would show up for a "Castlevania Dungeon Forum", not just a "Castlevania Forum".  Even that, now, does not work, though, since it brings up the forumplanet/gamespy one.  As for the "130,000 more posts" post count, we lost about four or five months' worth of posts on the server switch, since we worked off of an old backup.  If we are doing a comparison now, then the numbers are somewhat misleading.  That is, unless Successor has been keeping tabs on forum posts for the last four months or earlier (this thread managed to make the backup and be on top, from what I recall, and it's from June 01)...

...but I don't think Successor would do something so childish and petty though.  I give him more credit than that.  Kurt and I are certainly not checking other sites for popularity and google searches, and I don't think we will be starting that any time soon.

I will say this, though.  If Nagumo did invite him to a Castlevania Forum, with the state this forum was in for the last few months, it's not only understandable, but quite encouraged that he would mention Successor's forum.  There needs to be more a connection between the developers of a game and its fanbase, wherever that fanbase may be.

I didn't know this. I just assumed that the Castlevania Dungeon was the biggest forum, and I've never heard of the Anti-Chapel, that's all. I also didn't know there were rivalries between message boards at this day and age. That is soooo 2004. I may very well register at the Anti-Chapel if that's were it's at!   :D

Same. I just go where the Castlevania is at. The more forums, the better.

This is true even for me.
I go to a Castlevania Forum "en Español", they're cool people there.

Wow, a fair bit of movement lately after our fear of lack of hype.  Love the twitter account: it's good that he updates so regularly.  Also good job Nagumo on initiating the Q&A.

You know, it would actually surprise me if Cox hasn't posted regularly on a CV forum long before now.  He's clearly a big fan and we're generally passionate players with strong views on the series and its direction.  I can just imagine him engaged in a heated debate over the future of the series!

Favourite quote:

"Lone warrior facing down evil in a world of nightmare with chain whip."

The hype is starting . . . ?!

Perhaps the hype starts after God of War 3 and Bayonetta is released? Though I honestly don't see the point in that... I mean, they should at least TRY and steal a little thunder from Sony and Sega... I do however understand why Konami won't release LoS until those games are already out on the market. Nothing could compete with them, except Final Fantasy XIII which is a completely different game altogether.

It's better that they wait for the hype-juggernauts to blow over before releasing this time around. As has been stated before, Castlevania is no longer an A-List game. Releasing it when Bayonetta and GoW3 get released would only cause Lords of Shadow to be over-looked and over-hyped, causing it to become a sleeper hit at best. If this is a long term marketing strategy, if they release Lords of Shadow with enough time for people to take notice of it and the game does well, they've opened the market for another one.
