This excites me, too. I hope the game has a spooky atmosphere like CV4.

Probably he's just referring to Dracula, Death and the common lesser enemies.

Exactly what I was thinking. "Old characters" dosen't neccesarily mean another Belmont from a previous game, etc. He could just as likely be talking about Drac, Death, Slogra/Gaibon, Medusa, etc...hell even a simple skeleton could be technically referred to as an "old character."

It will be interesting to see how it turns out, however. But right now I'd be plenty happy to just get some more vids/screens and a release date!

Wait a moment... what if... Dracula IS in the game, as a Lord of Shadows, perhaps, but it's not THE main guy?
I mean, what if they keep Dracula as a Death-type enemy, who appears in every new CV since thhis one, but not as the lord of shadows himself?
That is an easy way to avoid fan bashing, but, at the same time, have a good dose of creative freedom.
So, the LOS could be

1- Dracula
2- Death
3- A werewolf guy

Isn't it the "Lords" of Shadow, hence more than ONE lord? I'd think, if Dracula IS in there, he's the Lord of the Lords of Shadow(the leader of all of them). It makes me wonder who all the others are.

As for other classical character appearances, yeah, Death and such are pretty much a given, though I don't doubt that Alucard might have some part in this new CV continuity. I mean, there's always a place for the "son of Dracula", especially considering how popular he is.

I dunno... Castlevania tried to replace its Japanese namesake once, and that didn't go too well, as I recall. Plus, Dracula's the ultimate badass; it wouldn't be Castlevania if his or the Belmonts' roles were lessened.

Munchy, you don't get what a reboot is right?
If Konami knows something, is that this game won't have lot of western appeal, they want to the ones with the money, us (I know japos are really wealthy, but you know, MW2 did a billion without their help).
If that means changing the japanease name, bringing Dracula to a lesser role (Munchy, did you know that Gabriel is a Belmont right? so their role is not diminished) so it will be. Simple as that. And Dracula is certainly not the ultimate badass, not in the old continuity, I mean, is badass being revived 5 minutes before your death? it's NOT badass as far as I am concerned  8)

it'd be weird to see any non-boss character we're familiar with set in 1050's, but i guess they can do anything in a reboot.  assuming its not just a boss, Alucard would be a decent choice.  maybe the characters won't actually show up in the game, but will be referenced in the scrolls.  you could list several generations of Bemonts in the scrolls at least.

i'd be happy if they just threw in some classic characters so you could play them after you beat the game.  would be sweet to play as Sypha in a game like this.

also, it will be weird using sub-weapons like the holy water and daggers without using hearts.  sound like you'll need to keep a separate supply of each of them.  i hated the use-weapons in SotN, they were so rare that they were never worth pulling out of the inventory and using except for kicks.  i hope it will be easy to amass a decent supply of the subweapons.  maybe they come in packs of 50?

if Super Castlevania IV is his bible, it's not hard to speculate what the other two subweapons might be.  stopwatch rarely makes the cut, but it's possible.  course they could still throw us off.

Fingers-crossed sub-weapons are not a gimmick, and that your choice with those (if you have such) can make a difference strategically in a fight (see: CV1 Death).  I assume they will, mind.

On some levels Lords of Shadow follows just about every 3D action game trait on the market: collect scrolls, health upgrades, kill enemies and gain EXP (see: orbs, coins), use EXP to buy new combos.  But I'm starting to get hyped about the platforming and puzzle elements, and if this game evokes a mood like Castlevania IV, it'll do no wrong for me.

Well, dark atmospheric environment with an interesting story is always my cup of tea.

Actually, what gets me hyped about LOS ( well, other than it's called Castlevania ) is the way Dave Cox pays attention to the other games like GOW, Bayonetta and Uncharted 2 which surely will guarantee the competitive element in Castlevania among high-classified games.

I always considered hearts as a japanease sillyness, and I really liked how the team managed that, don't you think that weapons' ammo must to be determined with thye actual suoplies of the weapon? not "hearts?"; i don't know, I think it will have sense :)

BTW, I agree with Reinhardt, I know we won't get a lot of the old characters in there, but the scrolls are certainly a good way to reference old things without compromise the original story and piss off the fans.

Do you think the game will retconn the whole saga (for example, LOI doesn't exist here if Dracula is already alive) or will be a standalone gam with no sequels?

From the info we've received thus far, it leads me to believe that this game is indeed a stand-alone title, & won't retcon the entire saga just for the sake of "new fans." Dave Cox has stated that it takes place within a "bubble" of the main continuity, as to not interfere with the already established canon. So they can make a sequel following LoS story but it won't contradict other stories.

I don't see any problem with this, as other series have used similar tactics (Metal Gear for example).

Also, Cox didn't doubt that the game could be included in fan timelines.

Wait, so this takes place in the established canon's timeline(let's just say, "old series"), but has no ties to the other games(doesn't interfere), and yet takes place in the same world. I thought they were doing away with the old series and this was going to be the new one. If this DOES take place in the classic series(just in the bubble), and it's before LoI, all I have to say is, "WALTER BERNHARD"!  ;D
