From the info we've received thus far, it leads me to believe that this game is indeed a stand-alone title, & won't retcon the entire saga just for the sake of "new fans." Dave Cox has stated that it takes place within a "bubble" of the main continuity, as to not interfere with the already established canon. So they can make a sequel following LoS story but it won't contradict other stories.

I don't see any problem with this, as other series have used similar tactics (Metal Gear for example).

I agree with you, but I hope it doesnt end up like Silent Hill series, because it has had too much twists I cant recall how the game is meant to be, see Silent Hill Shattered Memories for example, is completely different from its predecesors, but I dont know if they will continue to release another SH like that because some fans would like the old construction of SH. It is good we have a CV back to its original roots, but we dont know if they are restarting the entire series or is a game apart from the series like SH4 or else. Maybe when konami analyses the rating of the final product they will decide if they continue the timeline or not.

Konami are probably weighing this one up too!

It may depend on the success of Lords of Shadow.  If the game sells really well and draws new fans to the series it may have an impact on subsequent titles—those may use the characters and drift off into side-stories.

Cox’s standing in Konami could rise (having proved himself) and he may have a greater weight of authority on the direction of the series, much as IGA did (it would be ironic if Dave and Enric were calling the shots for a new 2D game and this was to be produced by IGA’s 2D team).

But I have a gut-feeling that perhaps the recent time of having one series producer lording over affairs may be gone.  And Cox has already said he’d like to try making a Contra game: he may get his wish.

I’d like to see things happen for Cox.  He’s personable, his Twitter has kept us all in the loop (even if he hasn’t revealed all too much), he’s spoken to us personally on the Chapel forum (and member(s) of Mercurysteam have posted here), speaks his mind, and he’s willing to take the time to ensure Mercurysteam make the best game possible.

Silent Hill is a different situation. That series started out with tons of twists and contradictory endings on purpose. Shattered Memories, for example is specifically a sequel to one of the endings of part 1. Silent Hill 3 is a sequel to a different ending from the same game that directly contradicts the ending used for Shattered Memories.

I think Cox has made it pretty clear that his game is in the same timeline but separate from that timeline's events. This is only going to hold true for now, though. If a sequel is made they could easily choose to try to tie it in to the main story arch more directly. We'll have to see.

somebody did ask if they'd ever later on tie it in with the series and David said no.  but they could always change their minds.  i'm just figuring on 3D games continuing with the LoS timeline for as long as Mercury Steam produces Castlevania games, and 2D or 2.5D games continuing the Iga/baseline timeline.

i think the Belmont history will be touched on.  the Dracula-esque voice mentioned wiping out the name "Belmont" forever, and i think that means that the Belmonts have been around a long time before this game and he has a reason for wanting to wipe them out.  the end of the trailer even says "Revenge 2010", making me think that Gabriel's ancestors defeated this character long ago.  i do expect to see something about who last did the deed in a scroll.  of course, they might not reuse any familiar names, its just a possibility.

I recall that from the trailer, but I just assumed it was Dracula expressing his frustration at having been thwarted in the past by other Belmonts, as well as a tack-on to make us excited that Lords of Shadow was, in fact, Castlevania. As to the "Revenge 2010" thing, I assumed it was Gabriel's revenge for the murder of his wife.

If that picture holds true, I like it already. The distance from the character seems perfect or almost perfect.

How would you guys feel about MGS easter eggs. Assuming there were already tons of classicvania Easter eggs. Snake an unlock able character, or maybe just little things.

If i could play as solid snake in castlevania I would be happy. Oh the jokes he would make.....

Also I would like to see Grabe embrace his love for being inside a box.

You will probably deny this and it is fine but I'm willing to bet YOU work for mercurysteam or you are David Cox himself.

Just my take, again you can deny it but I will believe it your posts seem to suggest as much.

To answer your question, I wouldn't mind it at all, its just for fun anyways. I just am hoping for a great 3D castlevania game.

It is true. We have been observing your suggestions carefully and are putting them into close consideration. What I can say is this, Dracula appears in the game as a minor enemy, Zobek is actually an older Gabriel in a time travel plot, and Marie is all three of the lords of shadows.

Sounds like a winner.
