for christs sakes we had a castlevania in the future and yet people complain about stuff like this! boggles my mind....

lol exactly! I dunno wtf everyones on about the games lookin great! I dont see all the generic fantasy elements all you guys are seein. I see creatures that have been in many other games but I dont see how thats addin generic fantasy elements to CV... Theres only so many creatures in existence that ppl can put in games and once youve seen em thats not gonna change from game to game.

Everyones all "this isnt CV theres no this or that" how do you know theres not? Im almost 100% positive that all the actual gameplay stuff weve seen so far is from VERY early in the game. By the time your near the end or even halfway thru it could look completely different in terms of locations and overall feeling. We just havent SEEN it yet and probably wont til the games out

As for the goblins. I like em alot. They look like goblins to me. Exactly like textbook DND goblins... wtf you want em to look like? gnolls? kobolds? pokemon?

Looking again, more carefully, I have to say that some of these areas show a lot of promise, thanks to the sprinkling of Gothic/ancient stone statues/architecture...

There's plenty of gothic things. This is a jungle area, how much gothic stuff can you throw in a jungle? haha..Theres been plenty of environments like this anyways - Rondo and the river part for instance.

Also I must add THESE PICS are from the early section of the game. Cox has said as much.

I'd like to note that I haven't said a word about anything except those goblins.
Also, I'm gonna nit-pick a bit and say that SCV4 has a swamp, not a jungle.

Why was the day/night cycle in Simon's Quest crappy?

...( EVEN THO THERE IS ONE IN SUPER CASTLEVANIA 4 ..people seem to forget) and etc..etc..
I don't remember a jungle level in SCV4. Do you mean the one with the giant skull mountain in the background covered in foliage? I always thought that was just an untamed forest.

As for the goblins. I like em alot. They look like goblins to me. Exactly like textbook DND goblins... wtf you want em to look like? gnolls? kobolds? pokemon?
Well, goblins in folklore predate both Tolkien and D&D, and they look different depending one which lore you look at. I would've preferred the older trixter-like goblins than the more modern 20th century warrior goblins.

Though, upon looking closer at the art of the goblins(I wasn't aware that there were BIGGER HD pictures of these until I stumbled upon a NEOGaf topic), and it actually doesn't look that bad. Someone brought up the orcs in CoD, and these kinda remind me of them, actually, pig-nose and everything.

Other than that, seriously, all these screens OOZE sexiness! The magical forest actually looks better than the original screen(the big statue head that Gabriel's standing on, with the sharp teeth, looks wicked). And yeah, still stoked about Wygol being included in this game. I wonder if this is a sign that they will include other locations from the CV series?

I don't think anybody said forests are un-Castlevania-ish. It's just, sylvan glades where the pixies and gnomes frolick while riding unicorns over rainbows, that stuff doesn't belong in CV game. But, again, so far, LoS doesn't seem to be going Lisa Frank on us, which is a GOOD THING.

and I'm saying there's nothing generic about any of this. All these 3d games nowadays just aped the original castlevania but they were the ones to do it first in 3d ( and better ). Now that a good looking 3d vania is being made people think its copying off of everything which sadly it was here before the others.

I also like to point out there's more interesting things going on in these environments than any of the past 3d vanias, a lot more statues a lot more character..That is all.

You know the whole "STOP! Night time!" thing? That didn't sit well for me.

Yeah, and it also happened when you least wanted it. Like, when you were low on health, or you wanted to enter a house or something. Then you had to wait for AGES for the morning sun to vanquish the horrible night...

I get the impression that you'll start out in the forest/jungle and slowly journey towards the mountains/snow. There's probably a castle in each and a 3rd castle somewhere else.
