What hypocrites. You guys know you would be singing Jim Sterling's praises if he gave it a positive review. Everyone picks and chooses which reviews are "legitimate," based on whether they agree with them or not. Of course, I admit I also tend to do that, haha...

Screw off. He didn't give it a positive review, so there's really no reason to entertain the thought.

It's an awful review that's more of a man-baby rant than anything else. He even gets some facts totally wrong.

The attempts at balance are pretty ridiculous as well. 90% of the review consists of dramatized complaining, yet the game ends up getting an "average" score. It also doesn't help that people are going to be quick to regard the game as "shitty" despite the scale.

There's a few gushy 10/10s floating around and you don't see anyone flaunting those, do you?

There is a difference in simply disliking a game and giving it a negative score for a review, then simply posting inconsistencies and outright false information. It's because of this reason the review is criticized.

It one at least has some form of journalistic integrity and is going to write a review and analyze a game writing about it either the good or bad points about it. At least the person should be professional about it and do so with concise and accurate information that has a basis to the claims made. There is also the very issue of simply not being able to put aside personal bias and write the review from an objective stand point. This is something that Jim Sterling did not do at all.

This is why the review sucks and why he should never be taken seriously because "professional writing" and "Jim Sterling" should never be used in the same sentence unless we are referring to his complete lack of it.

Outside of what has already been nitpicked, what in the review is "outright false?"
Also, are you referring to the score being higher than the review leads on, when you say it's "inconsistent," or what?

The guy mentions how rappling too far will make you fall into a pit. That doesn't happen- you'll stop in place. He also spent a bit of time bitching about how you have to replay an entire level over to keep collected items, which is false as well.

Judging by the review, you're also led to believe that mirror puzzles and qte door handles show up with "alarming regularity". There's like, 2-3 stages each with those things.

Also, I personally found it incredibly inane how he referred to the existance of optional secrets and upgrades as an attempt to "force gameplay". It's funny watching the guy act all pissy toward people in the comments...

That does actually happen in some spots. I don't remember what level but it has happened to me

No one's gonna read his review and decide not to buy a game they might be interested in, because they think you have to replay an entire level to collect a missed item. What matters are the things he said about the combat, climbing sections, narrative, unoriginality, camera - everything else in the review.

Can we get back to praising the game? :( I'm just so amped, that I spent 3 hours already, and I am only at the start of Chapter 2.. so much to go, and so much eludes already that there is alot of cool stuff to happen and be seen..

And about the reviews that say there is beautiful scenery everywhere that you can't access so it's no point - that's bullshit. I think that is part of the CV mantra, beautifuyl scenery and backdrops, just being in it is part of the mood. I didn't complain in the old NES CVs that I couldnt go clim that pretty looking snow-capped mountain in the distance. It was just part of the set piece. Anyway, the game has alot of mood so far. I especially liked the bog fight with the Swamp Troll, after taking a little toke :)

It's not that we can't access it, it's that the camera restricts us from really viewing it, zoom in/out, ya know? That woulda been nice.

Didn't bother to read Sterling's review since I never take him seriously outside of his humor, but I already knew for awhile he would end up bashing this game.

Well, LoS does have those platforming segments where you do get to interact with the environment. It's probably because of that, that the issue becomes clear when you otherwise can't interact much in every other segment.

Personally, even if it isn't "Castlevania", I think there should be a high amount of environmental interaction. Well, I think that should apply to every game. You have the extra dimension in these 3D games, use it~

I agree wholeheartedly, but since when has environment interaction ever been that big with Castlevania? It's kind of par for the course.
