With Lords of Shadows rebooting the series and will obvious be the main focus of Castlevania if it does well- Do you think (assuming IGA is still on for portable Castlevanias) that this will light a fire under IGA's ass to make the 1999 battle before he could possibly lose his position as Castlevania producer?

If LoS wasn't going to come out I say IGA would keep putting off the 1999 battle,(probably too afraid of the fan reaction since Castlevania fans can be harsh with him) but now.... If he was granted to make another game for a portable he should just do 1999. Obviously he should really bust his ass harder on this more than the others. Otherwise if he doesn't make it now he may never have the chance later.

I personally feel that SotN sequel for the new generation systems is cancelled. I doubt they are going to put that up with lords of shadows and have everyone confused with two different timelines. So let's hope IGA is not drinking away in an alley on unemployment and working hard for something truly epic for his timeline. Time to step it up!

If they do make the '99 battle, I hope it's for PSP with superior sound, sharp 2D, etc.

Before anyone contests to this, you DS fanboys already have THREE titles, PSP only has 1  :-\ ..UNLESS they decide to make it for Wii (and still keep it 2D)

a DS is cheaper to buy than a PSP, though, and better library of games.

PSP players just like PSP cause they can hack/download and own games for free with the older model.

In Reply I would like it on the DS personally (having a DS and all the DS castlevanias help). I don't think it would be on the PSP. The DS is more popular right now with the DSi. A new Castlevania DS could be spectacular if IGA just used his imagination a little more and use the potential of dual screens to the game. A dual screen castlevania would be cool!

In Reply To #3,

You can buy a used PSP if you don't want to spend a lot. Plus, a sprite based game will look a hell of a lot better on PSP anyway. Not to mention the music, too.

And you don't need to use bold text all the time to try and get your point across

I've always thought that making the 1999 game should be saved for last (or else made into a big multi-game event).  If Iga is really going to be out of the Castlevania business, they NEED to let him make one last hurrah, and it should be the 1999 game to wrap things up.

This may be assuming too much, but I think IGA already has lost his position as producer of Castlevania, the main direction of the series anyway.

"I think any new games for those systems would need to be in line with the new focus and story of the rebooted series.  If LoS is a complete reboot of the CV mythology, which it seems to be, then I don't think Konami would sink all this money into the CV "rebirth" and putting the series back on the mainstream radar, only to confuse fans by having IGA running a totally separate storyline on the handhelds."

I disagree. The handhelds (mostly the DS) should keep the focus on the original timeline. They already have games on the portable that are part of that timeline. It would be confusing to have LOS castlevania material on a DS just as the Sotn sequel would be confusing to come out on the same system and around the same time as LoS. IGA should get one last chance to wrap up his series if it does need to end.

"I don't care if it ever gets made. First of all, I never liked that Iga took the series into modern and future times. Secondly, no matter what he does, it won't be as good as our imaginations. "

Well thanks for the positive input, lol... Well I like to see it made and I love IGA's work on the 2d games. I even really enjoy LoI. CoD kinda blows though. And yes my imagination will be better but I can't load that in my DS and play it.

I'm not saying whether he should or shouldn't be allowed to wrap up his timeline, I just don't think it makes business sense for Konami.  It seems like they are trying to re-brand Castlevania as one of their flagship franchises, which is going to cost them a lot of money not just in LoS budget, but also in marketing.  It doesn't make much sense to have a spinoff DS game that is contradictory to this new identity and story direction, unless it was just some retro remake of a past game.  And since we know exactly what happens, its not as if there is this gaping open-ended plot loop that needs to be closed.  We know exactly what happened in 1999, as told to us in the Sorrow games.

Of course we know what happened, but HOW it happened, is still left to be desired

I think it would, should, and COULD be a lot more epic than you described :/

I hope you don't respond with "but that's how IGA will make it etc etc."

Not at all, I just think that we've seen this all play out so many times, I don't think any cheesy dialogue is going to be as epic as what people have built up in their own imaginations.
