I went on an HoD music listening spree today and remembered how much I loved the unique, haunting, yet strange and disturbing soundtrack. What did everyone else think of some of the songs? And are there any good remixes or arranged versions anywhere? For some of them, I wish they were made for PS2 or better.

Here's a favorite. So strange..

I have re-arranged most of this game's music, because I believe in the compositions.  That is, I believe that if they were made with good instrument samples and not the low-end chiptune stuff they used, they would have been better received:

Here's a link to my re-arrangements of the two tunes you posted, as well as my personal favorite, the Chapel of Dissonance.
CV:HoD - Shrine of the Apostates
CV:HoD - To the Center of the Demonic Castle
CV:HoD - Chapel of Dissonance

You probably already heard 'em before though.  I made 'em quite a while back.

I completely agree with you on this. The same goes for many of the other games in the series, like Bloodlines. When I listen to the soundtrack on the Dracula X double CD, it sounds so much better than it does coming out of an old Sega Genesis.

Successor of Fate is still in my top 3 of favourite entrance themes ever. It's an instant classic and should be used in a future CV for sure. People definitely have the right to complain about the sound quality in this game, but the compositions are brilliant (not all of them, but quite a few)

I dislike Harmony's music quite a bit. The sound quality is grating, and the actual compostions themselves aren't much to write home about either (though Juste, the bad ending, and the Dracula battle all have excellent themes admittedly).

Arch Enemy is probably my most hated piece of video game music ever. It's like scratching on a chalkboard. Just unbearable shit.

That may have something to do with there being many different Genesis models with varying a/v quality. (I don't mean just the Genesis 1–3, but there are many different versions of the Genesis 1 and 2 models.) Particularly the earliest models have really bassy sound, lotsa punch, but they're mono (unless you use the headphone jack).

Sunsoft did things with the genesis sound chip that were just phenomenal. Like..., BATMAN had a fantastic soundtrack. Then again, Sunsoft did things with the NES sound chip too... I still can't believe Journey to Silius and Gremlins 2 are on the NES.
Anyway, what was the topic? Oh yes, HoD...

Juste's Theme is actually a great tune, as I listen now, and fitting for the castle entrance.. creepy and foreboding, yet still adventurous sounding. Hope they do it again in a future game.

Arch Enemy - yes it is super irratic and all that. But I think it is supposed to be an 'óff' kind of tune, to keep you on edge during a boss battle..

Harmony's music was the most memorable thing I walked away with from the game-playing experience. Even with the weak audio quality the compositions in and of themselves were surprisingly memorable. As much as I enjoyed the music of Circle of the Moon, Harmony scored big points in my book for originality alone. There are many I would have loved to hear arranged in a modern console title, or even a commemorative CD. In the meantime though, Jorge Fuentes holds a collection of top notch arrangements for our enjoyment.

Yes!  I agree with this.  The programmers/composers of Bloodlines, Batman, Alien, Langrisser, MegaTurrican, and Sonic did wonderful things with that soundchip.  By contrast, whoever made the music for Ecco wanted to really mess with my mind with those samples.  That bass that sounds like "Uwoooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyeeeee" is crazy-sounding.

the sound quality surely looks like me drunk in 5 am.....but you cannot deny the composing itself, i mean, think of it as it would have been made with the same "care" as SotN...
