my god.  It's dawned to me.  After eluding me for years, I now understand how Sony ultimately got the PS3 to sell competently despite constant marketing and PR mismanagement.  To see it for yourself, you only need to consider the following words spoken by Rene Emile Belloq in Raiders of the Lost Ark:

Quote
Dr. Jones, again we see there is nothing you can possess which I cannot take away.

Now apply this theory to:
- Your money (referring to the PS3's initial $600 price tag and it's ongoing status as the most expensive gaming console available while offering no major technological advantage over its closest rival, other than maybe less disc-swapping)
- PS2 backwards compatibility
- Playstation Network (referencing the disastrous March 2010 glitch)

It all makes sense now.  The reason why people find the PS3 appealing is because it's being subliminally advertised as a suave, antagonistic fictional character from a 1980s adventure movie.  There is no other logical explanation.

Do you have a better explanation?

Or you know... he could just be making a joke.

And just because he doesn't like the ps3 means that he's a microsoft fan boy... maybe he jsut doens't like the ps3, or sony, or the color black on his consoles.

A PS3 Slim is actually quite affordable these days.  You don't spend $600 anymore (that I know of).

I don't really care much for either the PS3 or 360. Modern games are just...so boring to me. They offer nothing that intrigues me. When gaming, both systems I use mostly for downloading older games or new sidescrollers. The PS3 I use the most, but as a Blu-ray and upscaling DVD player. It's very good for that.

I'm all about the Wii. Houses more of the quirky niche games that I enjoy. Been playing Wario Land: Shake It! a bunch lately, and enjoying the poo out of it. Plus the Virtual Console is overall just a better system for classic game re-releases. Compare the Sonic games on the Wii to their 360 counterparts; the latter look ultra shitty and filtered, even with all filters in the options turned off.
Oh yeah, and also:
meat

Soda as well.

I have all 3 systems, and I play them all equally. But lately I've been showing love to the Wii with MMX Collection & Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Haven't played Harmony of Despair in a few weeks... haven't touched the PS3 in a while but that'll soon change once LoS is released.

looks like somebody is a Microsoft fanboy

Simply acknowledging the endless marketing faults of Sony and seeking a more sane alternative does not a fanboy make.

Or you know... he could just be making a joke.

No joke.  I am thoroughly baffled over how Sony got the PS3 to actually sell.  I am honestly half-convinced that they've secretly discovered magic exists and they figured out how to squeeze blood out of a turnip.  I'm not quite ready to give up my faith in humanity and say people are just that stupid.

And just because he doesn't like the ps3 means that he's a microsoft fan boy... maybe he jsut doens't like the ps3, or sony, or the color black on his consoles.

The only home consoles I own are a 360 Elite and a black Gamecube.

A PS3 Slim is actually quite affordable these days.  You don't spend $600 anymore (that I know of).

It's still a relative problem.  You apparently didn't read the thread I linked to, but I already said:

Quote
[PS2 games aren't backwards compatible on Slim PS3s] because PS2 games need the Emotion Chip to run. Only the original PS3 line has a physical Emotion Chip built into the console, and it was removed from the Slim line to keep costs down. There have supposedly been attempts to re-enable PS2 backwards compatibility by emulating the Emotion Chip, but obviously all of these attempts have failed.

So, yeah, to recap: Sony released an overpriced piece of crap and nobody bought it. Sony then re-released it as an even bigger piece of crap to slightly lower its price while still making it $100 more expensive than any other starting console at the time (Xbox Arcade and the Wii were both $199 by that point). And then it magically sold like hotcakes.

Your guess is as good as mine.

So... this is basically a "ps3 is stupid" thread.

Despite all the problems the ps3 may have, it still doesn't compare to the 360's RROD, that 95% of owners have experienced. Microsoft doesn't have a clean track record either. Nyah!

From his reply... yea...pretty much he's just hatin' on the ps3. I'm not entirely disagreeing with him, but seriously, hate in your own room, don't bring out here.

This isn't Gamefaqs. What are you trying to accomplish here exactly? So far you've made yourself look quite silly.

I never pain $600 for my PS3 and it's one of the older system. And I also bought it back when they were still hot on the shelf. Mine is backwards-compatable for both PS2 and PSX games and it only cost me about $499 or so. I do find the PS# to be a much more stable system then the XBOX 360. At least that's how it is with the older 360 systems. I'm not sure about the newer fance-looking ones as I have yet to look into them. But I know I will not pick up a 360 until 'ALL' the bugs and mechanical problems have been eliminated. I will not stand for the red ring of death.  :P

I love having a ps3, I've never had problems with it, the psn and online features are perfect, the exclusives for the ps3 interest me more than the ones for the 360, its got a blu-ray player, which is great, and even though mine isn't backwards compatible I don't care cause I have a ps2. I payed $400 for it and don't regret it at all, I think its well  worth it.
What a horrible night to have a curse!

Isn't the only Xbox360 exclusive game the Halo series? I'm pretty sure you can download most of the "exclusive non ps3" titles on Steam or something. Even Mass Effect 2 is now coming to PS3, but It's been on PC forever.

It's got Operation Darkness too, which is a pretty kick ass game imo. Though I doubt a lot of other people would think so.
