This rebooting/revamping trend is a bit scary. Every other franchise these days are going down the "omg forget everything you know!" route.
Though maybe it's nothing new. SEGA f*cked up Phantasy Star, Shining Force and Sonic ages ago. SquareEnix only recently ruined Final Fantasy (IMO) by making it "new" and "appealing" to a different crowd. Before that they pissed on Seiken Densetsu for a number of years. Capcom erased every bit of horror from its Resident Evil series and turned it into a straightforward 3rd person shooter. Konami outsourced basically EVERYTHING and destroyed Silent Hill in doing so.
Now, the Castlevania reboot actually turned out fine. The Devil May Cry reboot on the other hand, looks downright worrying. Meanwhile, Nintendo claims that they're doing something completely different with Zelda: Skyward Sword. It doesn't look too different from what I've seen, so I expect streamlined, simplified gameplay and gimmicks a plenty. Metroid Other M, while not a reboot, makes me worried for the future of Metroid. And what will become of Metal Gear? GTA? Waaaaah!

LOL, I am exaggerating now, I know. But still!
Lara Croft totally looks like a Ninja Theory character in that picture though. Dunno... maybe I'm just having a really bad day today. It's not Lara's fault. Nor any of the above mentioned games.
