im looking for feedback, on which people prefer, 30fps games or 60fps? incase your wondering where talking about the frames per second, what do you guys prefer? i like the 30fps, only cause im a retro gamer still, and i take the fps in account for every 3D level i produce making sure gameplay is still in its core best

On 2D games, you're fine with 30fps.
On 3D games, it depends on what kind of feel you're going for.  You get very silky smooth animation with 60fps but it often looks 'fake-ish'... it's weird to explain.  With 30fps, it looks more like film, but at times it will feel like you're still in the PS2 era.

So the way I see it, you can use 30fps as a stylistic choice, but otherwise go for 60fps if it's possible.

the make i can use is 90fps, basicly looks the same as 60fps just doesnt show any precaching loading, im also aiming for a steady 30fps on future 2d games, yes i have pened a new Castlevania 2d game, ive always wanted to do 2d but found 3d marginally easier to make stuff in, eg: "DXC Stage 8 remake"

I would actually prefer 60fps for even 2D games. It just gives the game an inherent smoothness that can really boost control responsibility. I mean, iirc, the old 2D Sonics ran at 60 fps.

SOTN was smoothly animated for i believe it was 30fps, sonic was 60fps for the emphasis on speed, i have no quarlem on using 60 for a racing or speed type game, 60fps i aim for or higher on racing style games or levels. Does 3D suit 2d castlevania best? and 60 should be used in a 3Dvania? im asking since im still in the process of several game designs, and as i stated, i really want to do a 2d vania

60 fps if I can get it, but most of the time 30 is fine. I just hate games that have bad refresh or whatever... like this one game on the psp, made me extremely dizzy due to the difference in refresh rate and frames.

ive found the psp utterly terrable for 2d pixel games, eg rondo of blood and sotn while wlaking the BG would give me a migrane due to the screen's refresh rate, and the original games rate. i enjoy rondo on the wii's virtual console more in 480p

60fps is industry standard, even for 2D games. Yes, even for retro consoles like the NES. Use it, love it, live it.

Extra notes: developers have control over the FPS in most every case, and at times will decrease it for performance purposes. They stick with 60 unless they need more horse power and dont care to make the program more efficient or sacrifice features. Some examples of this are, Starfox on the SNES, and 3D racing games on the Gameboy. For 2D games there really is NO excuse what so ever to be doing less than 60.

It doesn't make any real difference as long as the gameplay is smooth - 2D sprites or even current gen 3D games. Example: Gears of War series runs at 30FPS, and they have are still aiming for this for the 3rd installment.
