60fps is industry standard, even for 2D games. Yes, even for retro consoles like the NES. Use it, love it, live it.
Extra notes: developers have control over the FPS in most every case, and at times will decrease it for performance purposes. They stick with 60 unless they need more horse power and dont care to make the program more efficient or sacrifice features. Some examples of this are, Starfox on the SNES, and 3D racing games on the Gameboy. For 2D games there really is NO excuse what so ever to be doing less than 60.
