You have a great deal of technical skill with your artwork, and I suspect you drew line work for this and then did it piece by piece, is that right?

My one critic comment on it though is that I cannot tell if it is a man or woman, and I really abhor it when Asian art is like that. I despise the ambiguity of masculinity and femininity. I want men to be clearly men and women to be clearly women.

I don't know who it is and don't know anything about the story you reference.

Still I would give it around a 7 or 8 out of 10.

The highly detailed and defined eyes and lips contrast greatly with the rest of the body and hair. The body and hair are much much softer, with much less definition. It really looks like the body was left incomplete, without its shading and contrast completed. The face seems much more refined just based on the skin shading and details. This also contrasts with the sharper and more defined background. The main torso itself looks almost slapped on after the head and arm were done. It seems to have been made to fit the positions of the two, resulting in a misshapen and disproportionate look.

Despite that, it's pretty good.

Well for my defense it's the first time i use acrylics, who unlike oil paint doesn't allow you to do a lot of changes to your painting . The contrast you're talking about was there in the original painting too. Maybe if you see the original you'd understand that the face was supposed to be detailed while the rest of the body was supposed to be fading. I only tried to follow what Kojima did . Her characters are always androgynous, so yeah it's hard to know if it's a man or a woman. I gotta admit i had a hard time with the shading, but overall i'm pretty satisfied with the result, considering this was my first real painting.I'm glad that some of you liked it,and commented on  it.
 Thanks for the feedback :).

That painting is great! Ignore negative feedback. You're very talented.
Don't know about Ayami Kojima, but this style is very surreal, kinda like a combination of styles like Pablo Picasso's and Salvador Dali's.

I don't know much about art, but I would have payed quite a few bucks for that painting.

I wasn't trying to be a jerk, just to let you know, Odile.

Incidentally your art rather reminds me of some of the art from the 1890s. At that time, 'japan-esq' styles were in vogue and Europeans were imitating it with Aquatints and drawings.

I don't know what to say of this, and I am not an art professional, so I will refrain from giving any criticism.

Good work, OP.

You mean Impressionism?
....This looks nothing like Impressionism. First you said it yourself, the artists  mostly used watercolors or oil paint(using the alla prima technique).I used acrylics, and they don't give the same effects as the mediums i mentioned. The only thing that you can compare to Impressionism, or rather Pointillism, is those blue and white dots, and that's it.
And don't worry, it takes more than that to make  me feel uncomfortable or have doubts about my capacities ;)

No, I don't mean impressionism. I mean the art of the Decadents and the Symbolists.

Symbolism is prolly  the closest, since it uses  imagination and spirituality in reaction to naturalism and realism. I don't know what kind of techniques they used, but it seems to me that the ones who tried to copy the Japanese prints were the Impressionists. It doesn't matter because Impressionism and Sysmbolism were around at almost the same time. They could have used the same techniques, but with different subjects and different philosophy.

I'm finally able to view this image!

I really, really love the eyes... looking at them reminded me immediately of Ayami's art. I think you really captured the essence there. My guess is it's a woman, but I'm not sure who exactly you're drawing...care to explain further? I'm also looking forward to more of your art!
