I have to wonder sometimes if Konami Japan actually realizes the gold mine it's sitting on where Castlevania is concerned............and just how easy it would be for them to cash in on it.

I think I'd be perfectly happy with just a piece of memorabilia or something. Sure, a game would be great, but just about any kind of object to celebrate 25 years would be fine. I just wonder if Konami will actually do anything or not. Hmm.
It's like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but instead it's Who Wants Fried Chicken? I do.

For the 25th anniversary Konami should just give us collections, maybe in two (or even three) volumes to fit everything (at least the good stuff). IGA used to say that a collection would be difficult because the games are scattered across so many different platforms. And while I don't know much about game developing I do know that other companies have done collections, so I think it's a lame excuse.

Chances are something like this wouldn't sell a lot, but the budget for putting a couple of emulated Castlevania games on a PS3/360 disc cannot be bigger than the budget for Castlevania Judgment. And that game bombed.

Anyway, my guess is Konami won't celebrate at all. Maybe we'll see a 3DS Castlevania announced at E3, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Technically, Portrait of Ruin could be looked at as an anniversary game. It features a lot of references to many games in the form of characters, bosses, and even simple equippable items (Simon's Quest and Harmony of Dissonance are examples of this). What if they make a game this year that's similar in the amount of references to other titles?

So something like Dracula X Chronicles?

I would be ok with that.

No Oswald, not like DXC. Not to say DXC has bad graphics but I wouldn't want that style for the 3DS.

I'm hoping for something like 2D spritework with 3D parallax backgrounds. Ya know? OoE-style, but with a lot more attention to detail & emphasis on difficulty, with beautiful sprites, Yamane being a guest composer & either Masaki or Kojima doing artwork, because that's what we love. Ya know?

I hope so, but i have the bad feeling we will play another downloadable CV this year  :(

As a collector, i scorn every game without box and booklet.

Anyway, i don't think we will get something from 25th anniversary, maybe we have to wait untill 2016  ;D

I´m hoping too something in 2D. Maybe in the style of the new [Contra] Hard Corps Uprising. Of course, I´m referring at the sprites, but not at the art. I mean, no more anime Castlevania like the first 2 for DS (DoS and PoR). The art from OoE would be perfect. But with that detail and emphassis that you mentioned.

No Oswald
Stop calling me that sdsdfasdf

So you want sprites with 3D backgrounds then? Like an old PSX game? I'm down for that.

If they were going to rerelease "HD" versions of classic titles it should be like the Special Edition of Monkey Island - repainted with remastered music but essentially the same, and with the option to switch to the original version any time. Smacks of way too much effort though..

I think a graphic style like Strider 2 or Hard Corps: Uprising would be a nice compromise. They would be able to make beautiful backgrounds while not having to draw them pixel-by-pixel without compromising character and enemy sprite animations.
