Topic.

Personally I prefer Original Console for anything PSone and under
but if emulation can enhance the game like the PS2 and Gc/Wii emulator, I prefer them simply because it like those were ment to be rendered at high res.

I prefer original games with the console. I just need to put the game in it, turn power on and grab the controller. no settings. just me, the controller, a big tv screen and some pixels. (: i just love it that way. Playin Resident Evil I on an emulator would never be the same like on playstation.
You always will go back to old good classic games.

I don't have a big preference either way. I just use what runs well.

In the case of the NES and Genesis, I can't get those to output in S-Video or component, so I play them emulated through the Wii, and they look so much better. Plus the Genesis has so many different models of varying sound quality, I'm basically getting the best of audio and video through emulation. I'll never have to plug in a Genesis again.

I use either-or. If there's a game I want to play that I don't have then I'll emulate it. If there's a game and a console that I have neither of then I'll emulate.

Emulation all the way. It's easier to take screencaps and rip sprites and stuff, and that leads to a lot of fun. Just look at my usericon 8)

While I like both and use them often, I love having a physical copy of the things I like. I feel the same about downloadable games in general.

I guess emulation is just convenient, but if I had to choose I'd take a physical console copy of a game, just can't afford them all!

also, I only use emulation on old games, I refuse to emulate sometng like DS games for example

Hell no to emulation other than playing games that have no console ports on MAME, games I don't own console or handheld, FM Towns Marty and X68000 games I'd never get any other way to play. Or to test the next Saturn or PS 1 game to buy.

Real console all the way, I collect games so that I can proudly own and play them when in the mood for a certain game. Wii has VC, that's emulation, but I'd rather it for NES, SNES or Genesis games that are pricey due to rarity or popularity, ala Super Fantasy Zone or U-Four-ia. It's also good for playing TG16/PCE games because I have no system, and good for the few PCE CD games that I own real copies of.

I use emulation as sort of a last resort: mostly for arcade games that haven't been released on an online marketplace. (BTW, it sure would've been nice if we had seen more classic arcade releases on XBox Live and Game Room. But now everything is a half-baked remake instead of a faithful port with optional enhancements.)

I'm lucky enough to have two really good used game stores within several blocks of where I live, so I physically own about 80-90% of the retro games that I want. Nothing beats playing on the original console for me.
It's like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but instead it's Who Wants Fried Chicken? I do.

The original experience is always superior. The original controller, the original games... these are more important than enhancements the emulators can offer.

That being said, I still use emulators, a lot, because I can't have all the consoles I wanted to have.

For sure, console is better. Cause owning the game feels alot better than just downloading it for free. (plus you can oggle the cartridge/cd/whatever/ :P)

Plus its best if the game is played on its original console.

I feel guilty when I emulate. I have a big heart.
But most games are just inherently better to control with the controllers they were meant to be controlled by. Then there's all the settings that the console had. It's just the optimal experience because that's what the developers intended.

dont need no high res up in here no get out of here

So basically "yes" to emulation. Nice one.

No, let me say this again, only to stuff I don't own, or Japanese PC's I'd never be able to afford. The games I own I will not play in emulation, I have used emulation mainly to see what I want to own. If you had talked to me 5-10 years ago, then it would've been yes. But now that I collect cartridge and CD/DVD games, I'm less pro-emulation as I prefer to play my games on the consoles they were intended for.

The two good things emulation has brought to us is that companies have made retro compilations, many run via MAME or some sort of emulation, and the preservation of classic/retro games. Too many downsides to emulation, games don't sound right, graphical glitches not seen on real consoles, wrong colors, speed not always up to snuff, and framerate issues, something present for sure in MAME that can make a difference in shmups.

I think emulatronics does have some advantages, though--aside from the stuff like sprite rips I mentioned above, there's also translation patches. For instance, as y'all know, I used to hang around the Fire Emblem fandom (still do, to an extent), and the only way to play some of those games *in English* was via emulation, specifically to append the translation patches to ROM-kuns. So I think there are some advantages to emulation u_u

How about a Flashcart for the DS! don't need cartridges and it plays games perfectly.
