Hmm, who did the opening animation for dawn of sorrow though? Not really familiar with which artist did what, but that one definitely had an anime like direction. Have the game too, just need to get around to playing through it (just finished Aria of Sorrow).
Someone else did Dawn of Sorrow's Art as well as Portrait of Ruin, Ayami's Art style is distinctive, and very apart from the anime universe.

Since that Dawn of Sorrow played much similar to its predecessor, I can assume the game is pretty good still - least in my opinion. And a good number of people love Soma so I don't see how an anime art direction will effect how the character is viewed. Julius is another good example, least from how many people I've seen favorite him alot. Shouldn't it just come down to how the character is presented in game by the actions they preform?

Well regardless, an opinion is an opinion ^^" Not everyone likes anime artwork

I think it was more of Judgement not looking like anything you've already seen, just with different hair/color.
Anime is a Decent Direction, but Castlevania and Anime just Doesn't mix like a Tye-dye Shirt in TRON.

Anime today is very less appreciated mainly because the effort is Downhill and mostly Recycles from Previous other media, that and U.S. Otakus seem to be less casual with thier fandom.

Was she the one who did Harmony of Despair's artwork? I might be getting her confused with someone else though.... memory just tells me she did that and SOTN's artwork...

Ah, I see your point. Since Im just more analytical of the character's personality, the presentation of the looks don't really matter that much to me. That said, some of the costume designs given to the characters I actually liked, but the taste varies (especially for the fans who played the games those characters originated from).

Unless it was the actual costumes themselves (like what they did to death, grant, etc) that effected the view of the character, that would be a bit more understandable. We can't say that a character/game is less awesome just because anime was used as their art style (If we used the same costumes but had a different artist for example, wouldn't that change opinions of the game?). Personality wise Maria needs work, Death's costume needs fixing, as does Grant and Dracula in my opinion. The rest seem alright as they are.

Course again, this will come down to the person's taste and not everyone is happy with how the characters were represented costume wise. The anime artstyle I find would be a nit pick at best, but then again there's some bias in that statement as I do watch anime. So whatever the taste in art style, the personality and the character's actions should matter more (just like I say gameplay should matter more than looks, though once the gameplay is solid, the looks should be next in line). But that's just in my opinion again ^^"

Really?, I wouldn't call it an Anime style since it was never Animated, plus there is too much effort in her paintings for such a brand.
\
that is anime style. No matter how beautifully made and good quality the work is, it is based on anime and manga style. note the faces and hair.

Since RoB, was anime style, i want to believe that she didn't want to go far away from RoB, since SotN is based on this one, so she made them as less anime she could, by making them, at least for me more asian looking.

That's what i believe for her style on SotN!!!

Menace.

Is that Nexus? Anywho, I think Lord Zed would have been closer looking to Menace than an Ultraman ^^;

All her other game artwork is also anime/manga influenced.

I don't know why, but RoB anime style is tolerable. Maybe it's because Richter is so cool  8)
And vice versa, because Soma was cooler when he was drawn normally and had pimp clothes.

It's Ultraman codenamed "the next" I think. Nexus' design came from "the next", since it was the movie that sets the story for Nexus.

This Lord Zed? He sure looks more like menace. But this is Judgment we're talking about here.

Do you mean AoS or DoS?

He didn't have the fur in DoS which had anime style, so I'm talking about him being cooler in AoS  :)

Honestly, Soma looked stupid in DoS with those Boots, it was very unfitting.

Im 100% certain they were trying to make his design futuristic.

It failed.
