Someone else did Dawn of Sorrow's Art as well as Portrait of Ruin, Ayami's Art style is distinctive, and very apart from the anime universe.
Was she the one who did Harmony of Despair's artwork? I might be getting her confused with someone else though.... memory just tells me she did that and SOTN's artwork...
I think it was more of Judgement not looking like anything you've already seen, just with different hair/color.
Anime is a Decent Direction, but Castlevania and Anime just Doesn't mix like a Tye-dye Shirt in TRON.
Anime today is very less appreciated mainly because the effort is Downhill and mostly Recycles from Previous other media, that and U.S. Otakus seem to be less casual with thier fandom.
Ah, I see your point. Since Im just more analytical of the character's personality, the presentation of the looks don't really matter that much to me. That said, some of the costume designs given to the characters I actually liked, but the taste varies (especially for the fans who played the games those characters originated from).
Unless it was the actual costumes themselves (like what they did to death, grant, etc) that effected the view of the character, that would be a bit more understandable. We can't say that a character/game is less awesome just because anime was used as their art style (If we used the same costumes but had a different artist for example, wouldn't that change opinions of the game?). Personality wise Maria needs work, Death's costume needs fixing, as does Grant and Dracula in my opinion. The rest seem alright as they are.
Course again, this will come down to the person's taste and not everyone is happy with how the characters were represented costume wise. The anime artstyle I find would be a nit pick at best, but then again there's some bias in that statement as I do watch anime. So whatever the taste in art style, the personality and the character's actions should matter more (just like I say gameplay should matter more than looks, though once the gameplay is solid, the looks should be next in line). But that's just in my opinion again ^^"
