You speaking on your first run through it or after you have beat it and played it again? Just curious!!!

First, of course.

I didn't need to grind in OoE at all in the entire game. Proper equipment sets and skill got me through it. Bosses might seem hard at first but once you got their pattern down they fall quick.

Same here. I died a lot(which was actually quite refreshing), but I never felt like I NEEDED to grind to pass a boss. I just kept moving forward, only going back to find those damn villagers, and to do their quests(which were actually kind of fun). I'm actually replaying the game for maybe the fifth time now since it was released. It's still a lot of fun and a good challenge. The medals challenge makes boss fights hard even after you've figured them out.

First, of course.

That's cool!!! :)

When i'm playing a new Castlevania game, i'm rushing through it and don't bother to grind or collect items. I'm leaving these stuffs for the end of the game or when i have finish it first. If i find the last boss very hard to beat, then i'll grind some levels to be able to beat it.

The only reason I grinded through the game was to obtain all the glyphs. That and getting the minerals i needed for beter equipment. As for getting all the medals? That stupid crab fight always ruins it. I'd be much better if you could rocket your way up to the top of the lighthouse as soon as the fight starts, and give the elevator squish to the crab as he's still miles down below you.

Too much moaning about Brachyura in here. His pattern isn't difficult to discern, and the concept is novel and fun to contend with. Even Magnes is put to good use during the battle. Also, that finish.

Generally, this game has the best bosses of any post-Symphony Castlevania, maybe even Castlevania as a whole. Inflated health pools don't ever factor in if you're taking advantage of the enemies' weaknesses, like the game has taught you to do in the first place.

Bro Fist @ Gecko, Puwexil

It's all harkening back to the classic concept of gaining skill as a player, not as a number set. The game gives you what you need to survive, and teaches you the basic in which to do so.

When I got romped on in OoE for doing the same shit I passed through the rest of them with, then I knew this game was a keeper. A smile not seen in a long time returned to my face. It made me the player learn and grow, instead of grind EXP until the retarded attack pattern I did worked out on the boss anyway since I was just now invincible. Hell most of the post SotN games didn't even need skill to beat the bosses. You get so OP early on anyway you can just mash attack and win usually. That makes a player like me get lazy and unskilled.

OoE kicked me in the ass, and I love it for doing so.

YES. It's my favorite of the Metroidvanias, as it's the first to (sorta) change up the formula since SotN, not to mention it's actually hard.

Also it's even more fulfilling than SotN if you just want to buzzsaw the fuck through bosses, thanks to Death Rings and Nitesco + sword glyph unions.

Love the game, but 1 fatal flaw, Bosses aren't legitimately hard.
Just because their health and damage are jacked up doesn't make it hard, it just preys on your boredom to spend almost 10 mins on a stupid crab boss, this is common with all the bosses.

Bosses should have been a real challenge instead of 10-20 mins of pattern dodging occasionally doing damage.

The only boss that made me think was the wall traveler, that was cool.

then again, this game would be better off without the level-up system and only rely on weapon upgrades and such.

This is the main reason I haven't finished it. Everything just takes so long to kill. Its rarely that hard from what I have played, but tedious. Compare it to the classics, where everything can kill you quickly but most monsters also die fast. OoE is too slowly paced in my opinion. Its does some unique things and has some cool ideas, but I have never really felt the urge to buckle down and finish it.

That's because you're doing something wrong. The game needs to be played hard (aka, use the gliphs right, switching them is fundamental on this game). Best combat system for any metroidvania IMO.

I confess that the first time I played OoE, I quit after a couple of hours and decided I didn't like it.  Later on I decided to try it again and I started a new game.  This time I put more effort into understanding the glyph system and I really enjoyed it from then on.  It is definitely different, and I guess the first time I played it I just wasn't in the mood for something that new.  Once I really began to understand it better I found that it really works quite well and I hope to see more CV games like it.

I disagree, PoR did bosses better, it required skill but didn't draw the battles out to where you no.1 cause of death is boredom or you screwing up like once or twice after 10 mins of battle.

OoE did do normal enemies much better than any maetroidvania though.

I found the PoR bosses to be HP tanks too, except a lot of their attack patterns were a lot duller than OoE's.

A few bosses in OoE have insane attacks. Like when Galioth jumps up, and slams his fist into the ground. Totally caught me off guard the first time I played it. Or the water bosses' tsunami attack.

Or what about Dracula's crazy instant game over causing explosion if you didn't use dominus quick enough?

I also liked Brauner's attacks.

PoR is just boring in comparison when it comes to bosses.

Really? Because this was exactly my experience in PoR (in a Hard Mode Lv. 1 from scratch game).
