this game would be better off without the level-up system and only rely on weapon upgrades and such.

Yes.  This is my major complaint with every metroidvania including SotN.  The level-up system makes the games way too easy.  Can't get through a part, just grind for a few hours.  Games shouldn't work that way.  It should be a contest of skill not patience.

For all the flack LoI got, the one thing it did right is that it didn't have the level-up system.  It just had hp, mp, and heart max ups as well as different armors and a few different weapons.  The fact was that there was no grinding and when you actually beat an area, it felt like an actual accomplishment because it took real skill to beat it.  There was no way that you could become overpowered and there weren't any broken weapons to make use of.  This is what these games should be like.

LoS did something similar and that worked.  It was a real challenge to beat even on the easiest difficulty setting.  Say what you will about the stories, but the game play is what needs to be present in most of, if not all, the games.

Love the game, but 1 fatal flaw, Bosses aren't legitimately hard.
Yes, they are.

I never had a problem with any metroidvanias bosses (besides the first time I've fought Galamoth in SOTN and that two-headed dragon in COTM). And if you wanted to get the medals... goddammit, that shit was almost impossible. The only "lame" boss (aka, easy) in this game is the first one.

Getting the medals was very easy if you were powered up enough.

Meaning hours of grinding......not that i am against the level up system, but it should be more balanced, something like the Dragon Quest games or if you don't wan at all a level up system, something like Vagrant Story, i think would be best, having to find items to increase your stats and upgradable weapons/armors the way Vagrant Story did!!!

I don't think I spent more than 45 mins grinding in that game.  There are a couple of places which really give you a buttload of points really fast.

I didn't even know that they went that high.  I think I got to about lvl 69 and I was pretty much untouchable.

I didn't need to grind in OoE at all in the entire game. Proper equipment sets and skill got me through it. Bosses might seem hard at first but once you got their pattern down they fall quick.

That doesn't make any sense.  Why would you need to grind when getting the medals means beating the boss without getting hit?  Getting the medals meant you fought the boss a few times, reset, and when confident that you learned their pattern, went for the medal with no damage.  I agree with the other posters, I barely did any grinding in this game.

Lv255, was unlockable as a bonus, for defeating lv1 cap mode.

You speaking on your first run through it or after you have beat it and played it again? Just curious!!!

I didn't grinding for the medals, i only did it for me, to see how much power you can obtain with a lv255.

The light/dark glyph union was powerful enough on my lvl 50 cap playthrough to take out almost every boss before they even had a chance to come at me.  The crab and a couple of the bosses late in the game were harder to get medals for, but most of them just fell before they even had a chance.

Crab medal was difficult to obtain, because no matter how much damage you were inflicting, you couldn't kill it. The only way to die was to activate the elevator, but to do that, you had to climb the light house, while you had to fight it and avoid it's attacks.....something that sucks....... :P

I never grind in metroidvanias (well, I made an exception for circle of the moon), I find it makes the game a bit tougher and more fun.
