If anyone's interested the psx classic the legend of dragoon is finally available for download on the ps network today. I've been wanting this game released on digital form since psn began. I highly recommend it if your a fan of the final fantasy 7 type turn based RPGs.

I'll try this game, at first I wasn't interested because I thought the gameplay would be more like FF 7's annoying system but I watched some vids on Youtube and it seems to be more like a traditional RPG. Which is my type of RPG :P

FFVII's annoying system? You mean Materia(I could semi-agree on that, I never cared for the Materia system, especially the penalties certain materia come with)? I think most of everything in FFVII is superior to Legend of Dragoon(with the exception of the CG movies). Battles are faster, characters are more fluid and less clanky, pre-rendered backgrounds look better, translation isn't as bland(though also isn't without it's mistakes) and exploration isn't a chore. I think all the PS1 FF games are superior to Legend of Dragoon(even FFVIII, which I HATE with a passion).

I've recently started another game of Legend of Dragoon(PS1 CD), and I've been meaning to get back to it. I've never passed it. The first time I played, I got so bored, I stopped playing at a certain town. Lo and behold, it's the same exact town I'm at now. Though, I think I'll try and finish it(grit my teeth and go at it), but right now, I've got Xenoblade Chronicles taking up my gaming time.

Wow I thought I was the only one here who felt that way too.  I can't wrap my head around why this game gets so much praise.  It's like the plain yogurt of the PS1 RPGs.  It has no taste, it isn't very satisfying, but it's an RPG/Yogurt.  I also have never finished it for the same reasons.  The game is the equivalent of a tranquillizer, it just isn't that exciting or interesting.  And call me lazy/unskilled, but hitting all the combo timings just got so aggravating after awhile, especially with the amount of encounters in the game.  I avoided characters with crazy timings, like Albert, just because I couldn't be bothered.

I loved LoD. The only thing I really liked, beside's Tifa's big boobs, in FF7 is the materia system.

Wow I'm surprised to hear so much negative about LOD. I love this game. It's just like ff7 to me.

I remember there was a debate about FF7 not long ago, I think it was in this thread and many said it was an overrated game.

Personally I wasn't bashing Legend of Dragoon because I can't do that with a game I don't know yet, I did mentioned I wasn't interested at first because I thought it was like FF7, but that's it.
I like the simplier RPGs with a system based on turns alone without having to wait until the bar refills like in FF or other elements like in tactical RPGs. I don't like FF7 but I won't deny it's better than any tactical RPG, I really don't like those type of games because a simple battle can last for hours. The worst Tactical RPG I remember playing was Spectral Souls, that damn game used to overheat my PSP and ruined the battery because the battles were so long I just had to keep going until the end just to be able to save. I was forced to keep playing even when I was tired of it because if just turned off the console at that moment I would have to start over the next time. It not fun like that, a horrible game. The story was 0k and all the other features but the tactical battles and long loading times makes it horrible for me because it turns the already repetitive battles of a standard RPG into an 1 hour odyssey to defeat some shitty ass lesser demon for minimal experience points. Not to mention you get a lor more characters than you will actually use. At least I don't need more than a party of 3 for active use, and another 3 just in case the main characters suck.

Would someone who hated Final Fantasy 7 with the fury of a thousand suns, but loved Final Fantasy 9 and 6 enjoy this? I've already got it on disc years ago so I'll play it at some point, but wondering how long I should put it off lol. Since there are so many classic RPGs I've not played.

Yeah I disliked VII but loved IX (even though I did not play it that far, but what I played, I enjoyed).
Legend of Dragoon is good classic stuff.

YES YES YES OH MY DEAR SWEET GOD YES

LoD is my favorite RPG ever, period.

I'd imagine so. Its difficulty level is considerable, its Addition system is unique and requires a certain skill to master and it's got, IMHO, it has one of the best storylines I've ever seen in an RPG, and its soundtrack is just incredible. My only real gripe about it is that you can't choose between Shana and Rose(people who've played the game will understand what I'm talking about). I've been told numerous times that the beginning(and in some cases the whole game altogether) is very dry and hard to get into. But maybe I'm just a sucker for caves and swords and sadistic fat guys with clubs.

I'd definitely recommend it, Ratty.

Cool :) thanks for the recommendations. I'll put it down for next on my PSX RPG list after I beat Wild ARMS. And you really should try to track down and play through Final Fantasy IX if you liked the beginning Jorge, the rest of it is every bit as good.
