As a fan of Lords of Shadow as well as past Castlevania games, I honestly don't blame you or anyone else who feels that way.  At this point what can't I say that has already been said since Lords reveal in 09 and it's release in 2010. All I can say is that the silver lining in all this is that Mirror of Fate and Lords of Shadow 2 are the final games in the reboot. So there is a possibility that IGA may return to pick up where he left off in the original canon. Or rather if he's up to do more Castlevania games but sadly that's not up to him anymore, It's ultimately up to Konami weather they want to continue outsourcing and rebooting Castlevania to western studios or not. We can just sit back and hope for the best in the long run.

It'll be really interesting to see what they do with the Castlevania series going forward.

From the sound of it, MercurySteam wants to go leave and do their own thing, and frankly, since MercurySteam isn't a subsidiary of Konami there isn't much Konami can do about that besides throwing money at them. I doubt Cox is going anywhere, though, as he is an employee of Konami and they can tell him to do whatever they want. Hopefully they'll let him go, since he has said he doesn't want to be "Mr. Castlevania", but that's, again, Konami's decision.

I really don't see Castlevania going back East to be in the cards at this point, at least not for major releases. Castlevania has always been more popular in the Western Hemisphere, and if anything that Western fanbase has only become more niche since the series got more and more Japanese. Lords of Shadow had some of the best sales the series has ever seen, so when MercurySteam drops it, I wouldn't be surprised to see Konami give it to another Western developer to continue what Lords of Shadow started. This gives me mixed feelings, since although I did really enjoy LoS, I've spent the last 15 or so years playing the increasingly stylized Metroidvanias, so all I can really do is wait and see what the series has in store for us.

I just hope whoever takes over next makes more ClassicVanias. If they can, get M2 to make more games like ReBirth.

Well, I really do appreciate all the great feedback and well-thought discussions you all are bringing. I'm glad I'm not the only who's hoping MoF "ties" better than LoS did. I guess I just wasn't ready for the drastic change that came, like some posters have mentioned. The art, gameplay, music... it was all very different. Even though I had a feeling I wouldn't enjoy it as much, I still ended up getting the Collector's Edition because of my dedication to the series.

With all that gushy opening-my-fears/feelings-up-to-the-boards thing done, I'm really digging what I'm initially seeing for MoF. Still a little unsure about LoS2, but I'm pretty sure I'll still get it. Speaking of LoS, is the DLC worth it for the first game?
Defeating evil: Apparently easy.
Defeating the Lord of Darkness with a whip and some water: Damn.

No you're not the only one... ask anyone.. i been bitching about it since day one.... the first game threw me off cause of a lot of things.. the music was no as inspired to me as the older games... it felt too westernized to me.
It lacked that japanese charm as far as the music goes... cause like.. i can forgive it for lacking staples like the candles giving hearts and such.. and i can forgive that you don't use a whip (the vampire killer) as it's called...but i can't let go of the music.... and i can't let go of the fact that you fight Satan at the end... what?!!! That's not how it goes!

And ofcourse i keep getting from some people "it's a prequel to the series" no... they done that a few times.. LOS was a reboot... and totally different.

So i dunno... i hope part two fixes some of these things.
I miss the music that had.. infusion of rock and orchestra and synth and symphony... i miss having a beat in the music... it just... was really awesome to me... and LOS sounds too western.
Like they tacked on the Castlevania title to sell a series that probably would have sold just as well without that title tacked on.
I'm not calling it a bad game... just not a Castlevania game.

Well to be fair, you can't fight Dracula if you are Dracula.

Your better off watching it on Youtube, the DLC is two hours total and they're both cost $10.

That's my point... a belmont is not Dracula... not in the actual series.. that was something that was too out of place.. so to speak.

The DLC is by far the worst part of the game.  Castlevania concerns aside, the LoS narrative was very well written and executed.  The characters and their motives were very clear --that is until the epilogue turned everything on its head.  The DLC's narrative was too important to squeeze into a few tiny stages --the whole experience felt strangely disconnected and forced...  It would be a stretch to say Gabriel's actions were out of character, but his actions were very poorly motivated --poorly written and poorly executed compared to the primary LoS narrative.  No other Belmont would have made the choices he did, for the reasons he did.  A confusing change of direction for a man who had just saved the world and achieved divine salvation...

I think it depends on how you feel about platforming.  It has some intense platforming areas that had me swearing up a storm.  And I couldn't turn to my strategy guide to help me figure out what to do next.  Hated it when playing it, but it's very satisfying to overcome.  Took me forever to beat the Final One too, I had to dial back the difficulty to wimp level to do it, and even then.  If you're up for earning the ending, then go for it.  Otherwise, youtube videos are out there.

Well, I like platforming, but I'm not sure if I want to get it yet. It is sad to hear from Cecil-Kain that it feels tacked on. I guess I should beat the game before I even consider it. A bit off-topic, but how do you respect someone?

I never thought it felt tacked on, or at least, no more than it should have.  It was its own small self-contained story and another romp through the Castle.  It wasn't essential to the original game, but it was a nice side-story to help further develop the LoS universe.  I would have really preferred that it had a lot more new enemies in it though and regular combat.
