The only one I can come up with is the NES title Vice: Project Doom. It was an interesting game with three different play-styles; 2D side-scroller, overhead view for the car driving stages like in spy hunter, and some first-person shooting stages. The story was also interesting and definitely screams 'continuation'.

ACTRAISE~R

I loved this game on my SNES, fun little mash up of SimCity and standard 2D action side scrolling (though it got tough at times). Also a lot of other great suggestions I totally agree with BFM was a great gem that I adored, same with Tobal, Bushido Blade (why isn't this available for my PS3 with Move support dang it?!), Goemon, Lunar, Megaman Legends (I was so stoked for the 3DS version, was  :'()...gosh you guys covered so much!

A couple others that were fun and could use a little TLC;
  • StarFox (as opposed to just a re-release or dino-adventures[though I'm told it's fun])
  • Gradius (I don't remember anything new being released lately)
  • ZoE (again something other than a re-release)
  • Parasite Eve (more in line with the first title and not the other 2, can we even count 3rd Birthday?)
  • Chrono series (like Trigger and Cross ya know?)
  • Warcraft (as in RTS Warcraft)
  • Ghost in the Shell (I think a newer made title would be really something with some smart writing and over the top action, like get Gibson, Kojima and Shirow to write something and let Platinum Games handle gameplay)

And what else...

asd;lrtasjlfja HOW DID WE FORGET ABOUT SHENMUE?!

This game was amazing and pretty much the reason why I own a Dreamcast.

Hellz yeah. And while they're at it, they could continue the animated series.

Klonoa 3 needs to be made ASAP. It's my (dare I say it?) favourite series of platformers. Ever.

Suikoden 6. The PSP game that was released in Japan earlier this year is proof enough that Konami doesn't care anymore. I have no idea if the game was good or bad, but it sure wasn't Suikoden 6. Plus, releasing it on a dead handheld, making it Japan exclusive probably means that the series is over.

Tomba!/Tombi! 3 - Explanation unnecessary. Of course, it will never happen though.

Shenmue 3. Yeah. Uhm.. Next!

Phantasy Star 5 - Well, I doubt this will ever happen. And if it ever were to happen, I'm sure it would be something along the lines of Phantasy Star Universe. I can definitely live without that.

Yeah, there's a new PSO in the works (http://www.pso2.com/us/), which is exciting for me but I also understand isn't a PS proper. At least the franchise isn't dead?

I never got into the whole PSO thing(it was pretty big in the 90s). PS, itself, is dead as far as I'm concerned. PSO, while chronologically set in the PS universe, is almost like a graphical/artistic/gameplay reboot, that quite frankly, never interested me. It went from a classic JRPG with 80s/early 90s simple anime designs to MMORPG with ultra stylized characters wearing plastic clothing. I feel the same regarding the Shining series regarding Shining Force, it might as well be dead after that(everything before it counts IMO). It took me Shining Tears to realize that there's a stark divide between good and bad. Suikoden too. It's dead, even though Konami has "somewhat" continued the series via gaiden/spinoff titles that have no real connection to the main continuity. So sad. :-\

I might add another franchise that may technically not be dead, but it's nothing like it used to be, and the developers seem to be assholes on purpose. I'm talking about Seiken 'effin Densetsu. Whenever I think about Suikoden, Shining or Phantasy Star, I automatically think about Seiken Densetsu too. What a waste. :(
