the first trilogy of sonic hedgehog games are still the best imo, my fav being 3

i loved how Sonic & Knuckles was a special cartridge where you can link the first 3 to it. very awesome at the time, i miss those days. playing through sonic 2 as Knuckles was incredible.

i never could collect all 8 Chaos Emeralds in sonic hedgehog 1.. even till this day

i've always wanted to play Sonic R, Sonic CD, Sonic Triple Trouble.. sonic the fighters always intruiged me, never got the chance to play it either

i remember recording an entire playthrough of Sonic & Knuckles linked with Sonic 3 on VHS (collected all Chaos Emeralds + Super Emeralds too), i really need to find it

i also recall watching an old special MTV did when Sonic & Knuckles came out, it was like a contest/competition sort of thing. anyone else recall such an event?

sonic Adventure was awesome & an excellent launch title for Dreamcast. in fact it was the reason I purchased Dreamcast on that fateful day of 9/9/99 (that, and House of the Dead II). i feel like replaying it soon. i liked E-105 Beta's theme. Sonic Adventure 2 wasn't bad either

i only played Knuckles Chaotix via emulator, and it was weird so i can't comment anymore on it

i played a game called "Sonic Crackers" once, and it was weird so i can't comment anymore on it

i had a sonic hedgehog board game at one point during my youth, i wish i still had it because it might be worth a lot of money nowadays..

i have never played Sonic 4, though i heard it was wack. i do, however, wanna play this
Sonic & Knuckles 3D - Mushroom Hill Zone

i remember the Sonic cartoon they made [in the 90s]. not the gritty, grim version that featured Robotnik with a metal arm, but the version that was more closer to the games, if anyone remembers. i even recall another cartoon that had Sonic along with a brother & sister with the premise of them searching for their mother.

the only Sonic "friends" that i care for are Miles Prower, Knuckles, Shadow was cool, and maybe a couple others. by now i'm sure there's hundreds

there's a well-known "sonic cycle" that some believe to be true. and i can't blame them.
(click to show/hide)

i remember back in the day when Game Informer (or was it Electronic Gaming Monthly?) put a gag in one of their issues with Sonic in Super Smash Bros. Melee. Everyone went crazy thinking it was real. i think that's the reason why they included him in Brawl.

i heard Sonic makes a cameo in "Wreck It Ralph"

i wish Capcom will make the Sonic/MegaMan crossover comic into a game

i used to collect the comics. i remember one of the villains a guy named "Enerjak," he was an Echidna (like Knuckles) that was infused with the Chaos Emeralds. he was pretty badass

i don't really know how Sonic (the brand) lost his way over the years. oversaturation perhaps?

a friend of mind drew this years ago. i am now share it with the world:

Uhhhh Sonic 1 had 6 chaos emeralds, not 8. ;)

I still enjoy those first few Sonics, and a couple spinoffs like Spinball (which some people hate) and Saturn and Genesis versions of 3D Blast (again some people hate this one) as well as the SMS Sonics. I also own the originals in several different formats and when I don't feel like playing them on the Genesis, I sit and try to figure out which versions to play (Sega Genesis Collection PS2 with the original 2, Sonic MC+ PS2 with all of them and lock on ability, Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection PS3 with all of them, but sadly no lock on for 3 and S&K). In the end I just say to hell with it and play something else, but the urge to play the original carts always happens more.

I saw someone on another forum selling Sonic Jam Saturn (Japanese version) for $12, sadly didn't strike for it. A couple days later I buy World Heroes Anthology PS2 instead. Next time Gadget, next time.

Sonic 1's my favorite, but Sonic CD is a close second. Get the PSN/XBLA version of it; best version save for the cinematics which look and play like dick (and the lyrics for the Japanese theme were taken out). One of the collections has the best video quality for the AMVs, taken straight from the original film source, a collection for Saturn I think.

Also the first Sonic Rush is just as good as the classics. Well, almost. It's up there. Shame the sequel's a dud.

Those three cartoons would be Sonic the Hedgehog a pretty grim and compelling cartoon for the time, in which Sonic is part of a small band of resistance in a post-apocalyptic future where Robotnik has already turned most of the population into mindless robot slaves. And destroyed much of the once-idyllic environment. This series is more commonly known as "SatAM" (Saturday AM, the time when it aired) to distinguish it from the other Sonic cartoons.

The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog was the weekly romp you like, though I'm not sure I'd say it was necessarily any closer to the games.
Definitely farthest from the games though was Sonic Underground the last one you mention, made a few years later than the other two. It was a weird show which took inspiration from SatAM (it literally reused old concept artwork iirc) but had an entirely different story revolving around Sonic, his original character brother Manic and sister Sonia, and their magical rockband group. No I'm not making this up, and yes the music was as painful as you imagine.

Fun fact: Jaleel "Urkel" White was the voice of Sonic in all 3 cartoons, he also voiced Sonic's siblings in "Sonic Underground".

I remember hating the Adventures of Sonic cartoon, every time it coming on me wishing it was the one with the Freedom Fighters. Sampling both recently, I don't like either.

Wasn't Underground a European exclusive?

I really like the two-part anime OVA. Sonic flips Eggman the bird, yo.

Nah I remember seeing Underground on the sci-fi channel in the early 00s. At first I thought they were rerunning SatAM but then when I found out it was this new lame show I was very disappointed.
Also which episode of SatAM did you "sample"? It was a great show but it had a few less-than-stellar episodes. The ones focusing on Antoine and Dulcy, and the pilot episode (which was very AoStH like) come to mind.

I have the first Sonic Rush for DS.  Great game.  I recall getting stuck on the last boss and then I stopped playing.  That was years back.
I have the "Sonic Mega Collection" for Gamecube, and the "Sega Classics" for PC (though I cannot find the disc for it, argh).  That one had SonicCD and SonicR (lawlz).

Also I just remembered that you can buy Sonic CD on Steam now http://store.steampowered.com/app/200940/ and it'll probably go on a big Discount for the Holiday Sale any day now. They also just added a remastered version of the original Nights into Dreams on steam.

I didn't mind Sonic 1. Hard for sure but interesting for the start of the series. Had a basic story, but nothing overly complex. Sonic 2 was the beginning of what i like to call 'The Deathegg Saga' It also brought forth the beginnings of a more in-depth story as well as seven chaos emeralds and Super sonic if you should collect them all. Sonic 3 picked up where the second game left off, with Robotnic rebuilding his Deathegg doomsday ship and using Angel island's guardian Knuckles to keep Sonic at bay. Sonic & Knuckles continues this story and finishes it off very nicely. Robotnic learns of the Master Chaos emerald and steals it in order to use it for his own dire purpose. But then after all is said and done the Deathegg is ultimately destroyed in orbit and the emerald is returned to the lost civilization it came from. for me Sonics' 2, 3 and S&K were the best. I've played others since then but they still have yet to be topped imo.

Weirdly enough, I never got the buzz over sonic CD. I bought the remastered version of it on xbox live, but it just hasn't jived with me. : /

On the other hand, I still adore Sonic 3 to this day.

Putting Sonic 1 in S&K gives you an assortment of those faux-3D bonus stages to play, though. Think you gotta enter a code, but it also has a cool screen of Sonic and Eggman waving their fingers like "Nuh-uh!" for trying to play Sonic 1 with it. So it's not as if there's nothing it does. :o
