It seems fans from the Americas and Europe never really interact with the fans from Japan. I always wondered if they had different opinions on the games we usually find the best and vice versa, and what they thought of lords, or if there was an all-encompassing Japanese version of the CV Dungeon.

They prolly don't give a damn about the series anymore. I don't know if it's true or not  and correct me if I'm wrong , but Castlevania doesn't sell well in Japan. I think it's one of the many reasons that made this series become so chaotic. The way games are received in Japan influences the developement of future titles. Ooe was a pretty good game, but it didn't sell well in Japan. Consequence? The series got handed over to MS. It's just as simple as that.
Besides I think  that games like Pachislot and The arcade are going to be the future of CV in Japan, since the games on home consoles don't sell.CV isn't a franchise that can gather a lot of  hype anymore (was it ever the case I wonder?).So it's safer I assume to port Castlevania on arcade rather than wasting time and effort to make a game that won't sell on consoles. Also I'm so jealous that they got Castlevania the Arcade. I wouldn't mind seeing it on Wii.

Seriously ain't that the truth? We've already got the Wii-mote, and even the upgraded version from Skysword. Why WOULDN'T they port the arcade over is beyond me  :-\

I actually couldn't care less. Not to sound like a douche or anything but I operate from the mindset that the only opinion that matters is my own. If I like or don't like a particular Castlevania game my perception thereof is the only one that holds any value. And let's be honest here. The Japanese aren't exactly the standard bearers of high-art when you take into account the intellectual downturn of anime, games, and light novels over the last 20 years.

But there ARE Castlevania fans in Japan. I've seen japanese CV cosplay maaaany times, even as late as Judgment and LoS. Castlevania is clearly not as popular there as elsewhere, but still. So yeah, I'd like to know what they think too. I'm pretty sure it's all about SotN there as well, and also classicvania for sure. Also, I think it's a question of the generation of gamers you ask. Younger japanese fans could possibly enjoy LoS more than an older gamer who's probably bitching about the very same stuff that we do.

Honestly, I'm really curious how LoS was received over there.

This is the only Japanese forum discussion I could find about LoS:

It's not very interesting, though.

I'd wager the CV fanbase over there is not as different as one might think. It may certainly be a matter of more popular over here than there, EG more in public consciousness, (Simon  Belmont is pretty well known to most gamers, and most of them know the franchise through CV1 even if theyve never touched the games) but the fandom itself is likely the same. they talk about the same stuff, complain about the same stuff, only, in Japanese. And they have the slight benefit of having original source materials, whereas the west tends to instead get the bad localizations that many games suffered from the NES to the late SNES/early Playstation days. As well as whatever bonus materials such as books or interviews, etc. We instead have to rely on fan translations of those source materials (and original game text) that dont spread nearly as easily.

(Point in case look at the large amount of official Sourcebooks the Mega Man Franchise has, and compare that to the bad localizations some of the NES and SNES games got, and the complete lack of those same source materials over here, leading to confusions and mysteries that persist to this day whereas the Japanese side of the fanbase doesnt have nearly the same issue)

I say certain other games have their minds preoccupied in the action category why play castlevania when there is a much more popular gothic action series like dmc. Let's face it cv screwed up too many times now the series is behind to most players minds. I say that if cv had a rpg then it might stir an intrest in the japanese community other wise the series is dead to them.

Most Japanese Akumajo Dracula fans forums are the same as the Castlevania Dungeon forums.
LOL

So the fanbase over there is split over LoS as well? I guess that was to be expected.
