Keep in mind, that they are STILL pushing the Kinect, and so far, the price is still half a grand.
unless they lower the price and/or adjust the Kinect deal, they are still more or less in the same boat.
I'd be willing to bet that we'll see MS drop a Kinect-less X1 package for $100 less before the end of the first year. The Kinect was largely needless innovation...I can't believe it survived the 360 to live again on the X1. I always under the impression that Kinect-tech was a dud sales-wise. Guess some genius in marketing felt otherwise.
As far as the X1's pricing being a "deal-breaker", let's not forget...the PS3 debuted at the hefty price of $599, yet I highly doubt it stopped anyone in here from picking it up.
Regardless, I don't see any of these PR woes slowing down MS' momentum in the console market. Pre-orders were already topping that of the PS4 BEFORE MS did its about-face with the X1's connection and rental/used games policies. Like it or not fellas, it's going to be another tight race....and for anyone who truly claims to be a hard line supporter of the consumerism movement, that's a good thing. Having one company take the mantle and obliterate all other comers would just end badly for those of us in the gaming hobby, eventually.
Guess I still don't get the whole console fanboyism deal these days. I get people not liking one company over another, but it baffles me that so many nerd-rage over needing one company to get kicked out of the console race altogether. At any rate, it won't happen. Even a slow return on a single console generation doesn't mean that any of these three companies would be going anywhere. How long has it been since Nintendo held the console crown??? (and they're STILL making consoles). Might as well get comfy, Xbox is here to stay; and for all those who would never own an MS console to begin with....what does it matter to you? You still have Nintendo and Sony to donate your "loyalties" to. As long as there is a choice, we all win...don't we?
