I was looking through some magazine scans at the Dungeon, and I noticed one of the magazines mentions that somebody responsible for the game's art also worked on SCIV. I wonder if he is the guy who did the American cover?

It was the artist, Greg Orduyan, who seemed to be kind of full of himself. He uttered the memorable line in regards to Ayami Kojima:

 Q. What do you think of series artist Ayami Kojima?

A. Nothing really. She's okay, she can draw.

But Kurt-sama did interview him not terribly long after the game was cancelled so it stands to reason he would still be a little sore at the time.

The music was actually done by Mark Lindsey. I uploaded the track Another Vampire Killer on Youtube, and he asked if I would properly credit him and I obliged. He actually was very surprised to find that the music was leaked on the internet.

Also, there was this bit:

Quote
A. Well, it affected the story, but as far as game design, I'd have to say no. It was scorned for life by those skeleton motorcycles. We looked at CV, we sort of debated ideas with the time travel. I like things to be different. We thought of a level where it's black and white, monochromatic, like the old Dracula 30s movie, with film grains and everything. We kind of left that behind. In game development, you create tons of ideas. But because of limitations in the time and budget, you fill it with the core ideas, and the stuff that cannot be shed.

A direct homage like that to the Hammer Horror Films would've been awesome.

Yeah, I'm inclined to give him a little slack here too. It seems dismissive, but after his game was canceled he would be in a pretty bad mood...I know I would be. It would have been nice of him to say something nicer about Kojima-hime, but in a very depressed and disappointed state of mind, some folks would be hard pressed to say something nice about *anybody.* ;-;

Honestly I doubt it would have been good at all. You have to consider that it WAS cancelled first and foremost. I don't buy the claim that it was simply cancelled because the PS2 appeared. Konami has never been shy about alternating consoles with Castlevania, or giving many different types and visions of Castlevania in a short period of time.

What about the cancelled 32x version?

That's something I STILL would love to see in a future CV game, but doubt it given the gaming trend.

It's resources were re-used to make SotN.

I would be too If I were in his shoes, but not in a negative way. Since it's on the internet it is in-essence immortalized by the digital world. As are the images of Resurrection. The game may not exist anymore but that which we do have access to, is still here. I won't forget it. I can't. Maybe someday, someone will come along and try to recreate Resurrection as a fan project. It would definitely be a lot of work just to try and recreate an entire game from so few screen shots. But I think it can be done. Or if we're lucky enough somebody on Konami's inside would steal the game data and release it onto the internet. One can only dream.

My bad I should have clarified. I was bringing up the cancelled 32x version in regards to Uzo's comment that Konami wouldn't just cancel a game due to a certain system's dominance (or lack thereof).
I'm just saying the 32x version was scrapped due likely to the near-total failure of the 32x, similar to how the Dreamcast was not performing as highly as Sega had hoped, although I wouldn't call the Dreamcast a total failure.

It basically looked to me like the N64 games with higher res and more hardware. That would've been A-OK with me; no hack'n'slash tendencies, no combos, just jumping and whipping fun.

I still think the graphics look rather pretty, but I've always preferred color and atmosphere over drab realism.

The music, on the other hand—based on the samples that were released—was really forgettable.
This is EXACTLY how I imagine Castlevania in 3D. Real action platforming. Add a bit or "verticality" there and bang, we have a winner.

I have all of the tracks that were ever uploaded to the dungeon back in the day. I doubt it's all of the tracks that were made, but...

While I don't like the character designs, I agree. It's close to my envision of what a perfect 3D CV would look like. Imagine if it was given the budget and gloss as LoS? Instead of focusing on a heavy combat system, focus on adventure platforming. Keep the classic old school horror movie references to Hammer and the Universal monsters. Awesome! I STILL want THAT game!
