There is really is no real dealbreaker for me, as I'm pretty opened minded and I'll try any game once, and if I don't like it, then I won't play it. Simple as that. There...is one exception.

If Castlevania magically turned into a first person shooter, then I would have nothing to do with it. I have nothing against FPS games, they just have never been something I've been able to get into.

To me, now, dealbreakers would include:

- Damage sponge enemies that take forever to go down.
- Heavy QTE moments, even for the most trivial of matters.
- Shimmying and plank-walking over real platforming.
- Arena-to-arena battles where you are LOCKED in a specific area and can't move on until you've cleared a set of enemies. For bosses, it's fine, but for normal enemies.... NO!
- Flat level design with multiple reused assets but little to no variation in topography.
- Corny, cringe-worthy anime-esque comedy and romance as seen in DoS and PoR. No Hijinks. Save that for Kid Dracula, if Konami EVER wants to revisit it. I'd fine with that!
- To tell you the truth, now, without the more classical CV motif(lots of organ/baroque fugue and toccata inspired stuff), it just doesn't pump me up. I could totally do without the "epic movie score". Give me a variation of all the types pre-LoS. Don't have to be guitar driven power opera. I just want that sound to return.

SkyrimVania.... i can die happy..

Much more rpg, and a true Open World in the land of Castlevania.... much better than skyrim.. in art and history.

I second this. I'd love to see an open-world Castlevania, and not the atypical open world that's just a bunch of emptiness (looking at you, Red Dead Redemption (I still enjoy that game, before any fans jump me)). Something more like what MGS5 is looking to be. At the same time, though, I'd also be doubly sold if there were multiple factions and areas of evil to relinquish that didn't even have anything to directly do with Dracula. Something like in Lecarde Chronicles, just different areas with their own evil monster lords in which the player can gain more abilities/weapons to make the main event a little easier. Said main event would probably have to be crushing in difficulty, of course, and I'd prefer the main arc of it to be completely accessible from the get-go (but that doesn't mean the player will be able to get through it easily).

LOS pretty much is my deal breaker
It took the series villain and made him the hero/protagonist.
I know there are plenty of people who find it cool that in LOS2 you will get to play as Dracula but I can't think of anything that would make me stop caring more than if Castlevania became a series primarily about being Dracula or some other evil vampire/character.

But that's not what Castlevania has "primarily" become. just because you play as Dracula for one game does not indicate a massive franchise shift, Just one game... from an open and close sub-series.
Laura and Gabriel arrive in the deepest cave of the castle and... they find IGA.

By that logic, though, then the Legacy of Kain series must have been awful come Defiance, seeing as you play as the guy you've been chasing for two games. Yeah, yeah, I know 2 and Defiance weren't originally supposed to happen and not everyone likes what they do, but that's beside my point.

It's not the fact that you're playing as the villain that can ruin it, it's how it's done and how he's represented that makes that call. And I personally think it's a pretty good idea, since the guy's been getting killed for 25 years. A little limelight (besides Kid Dracula) isn't THAT bad. Is it?

I was just trying to say that what LOS has already started is what I consider my main dealbreaker, if it became the norm for Castlevania to feature Dracula as the protagonist or characters in the same vein I would lose all interest & to be honest it only takes one highly successful game to shape a franchises future.

If you think about it, Dracula IS the main character of Castlevania. He's the only character that's been in every game and without him, it just somehow doesn't seem like a CV game.

Even if it was a hentai game where you had to seduce all the womenfolk of the CV universe in creative and unprecedented ways, and/or Simon Belmont?

Actually I think that would motivate even more people on here to stick with the series.

That won't be a dealbreaker. They can even go the Tokimeki Memorial route where there's a girls side version and a boys side version. And I'd buy both. Hehehehe.

Anyway, I am pretty open minded on whatever direction Castlevania takes.

I thought it was pretty cool that when you got those certain souls in Aria and combined them that you'd basically BE Dracula. Loved that!

You can also equip Dracula's Tunic for even MORE accuracy, baby

I've been pitching this idea for a while now & am waiting for someone to pick it up: a game set after Lament & before CVIII that has us playing as Mathias in his quest to dominate the underworld. Showcase his growing vampiric powers, and the final boss could be Galamoth.

Well, I'm as guilty of brand loyalty as anyone, but I try to remind myself that the reason I love (most) Castlevania games is because they're excellent, beautifully crafted experiences. Rather than just because they're called "Castlevania", though I do love the sense of continuity and experimentation you get from the shared universe. Ultimately for me it comes down to the fact that "Castlevania" has over the course of it's history been, at heart, two very different things I love. A cheesy homage to even more cheesy B monster movies, and then a haunting gothic romance. I don't think it would hold my interest (certainly wouldn't hold it as much) if it wasn't one of these two things.

If something like that came out, I'd lock myself in my room for months playing it.

That would be interesting. I'd love to see such a game.

We depending on how it is executed, it could actually grow the fan base (mostly perverted guys). It could also alienate a part of the fanbase depending on how fans feel about that kind of content. It would all depend on the gameplay and how much female nudity/sexual content there was. Keep in mind that some countries would ban such a game.

Still an interesting idea. It's worth exploring in my opinion.
