Sega Will Finally Purchase Index Corp After A Month Of Speculation

Sega Sammy Holdings has finalized a deal to purchase the bankrupt Index Corporation, parent company of Atlus, after a month of rumors about the sale, reports the Nikkei. The deal was struck to the tune of 14 billion yen – lower than the amount speculated last month – and will bring Atlus under ownership of Sega. In mid-August, MNN reported that Index was on the verge of finding a buyer, with Sega Sammy expressing the most interest.

Shin Megami Tensei developer Katsura Hashino recently stated that despite the financial troubles of Index, new Atlus titles are in the works and progressing steadily, meaning these titles will now fall under Sega’s brand.

I was laughing here, since yesterday without knowing about that I've made a joke in a thread about how SEGA would revive and Microsoft would abandon the console market.

Does that mean now Sega owns Double Dragon? http://www.atlus.com/dda/

I think Streets of Rage personally is better than Double Dragon but hey who knows maybe we could now see more fighting games come out of Sega.

Well, they will own Atlus and thus everything that Atlus actually owns will be theirs too.

Yeah after reading I saw many companies got permission to use the IP from Million. Atlus was one of them and the latest company to ask permission was Wayforward when they made Double Dragon Neon.

I believe all but DD Neon were developed by Million, they just needed other publishers.

It's sad to see Atlus as a publisher disappear. They brought great things to the table that I doubt Sega will do.

I guess you could say this about a lot of companies but I don't feel Sega is the company it used to be.

That sucks. Well, nature abhors a vacuum, maybe some other company will decide to import all of the neat obscure Japanese games now.

Smart devices and pachislot machines? What the...?

Yeah, depressed.

The chances of small Atlus games leaving Japan just dropped dramatically. :-\

No, since you distorted it letting this one out:
(1) gain access to prominent IPs in the home video
game software, through which the Company can expect to achieve steady flows of revenue;

This means that they will invest in all these areas, not only pachinko and online PC games. Number 1 being the most important, since its number 1.

Don't make assumptions, just because it's number 1, on a list, doesn't make it most important.

EDIT: AND, if you really think I was trying to skew things just because I got 2 of the things I wanted to point out instead of the entire pdf, then I'd have left out the numbering to indicate there is one before.

I've never said that its intentional. Also if its not in order of importance they wouldnt even number it IMO.
