I kinda felt this way with this original Pikmin...I loved the game, but hated the time pressure. I felt like I was missing some of the "beauty" of the game because I was so concerned with trying to beat the clock. And again with the fairly-recent New Super Mario 2 on 3DS...it seems like the levels are much larger, and with the focus on gathering coins (and all the hidden coins and areas in each stage) I just want to play, free from time, so I can look around every little detail of a level...find every little secret that becomes so hard to find and remember when I'm racing against a clock. Perhaps this is just the curse of someone who is (at least somewhat) a completist?
Majora's Mask avoided this some by having the ability to alter time...replay the three days...you could "take all the time you wanted" by playing the three days over and over and over, each time exploring a different route or talking to different people. However, the reset that came with it was annoying. I also think I'd like the option to just explore, completely free of any time constraint.
