Wait, a specific "Umbra" as in...
Yep, DCW '99 confirmed.
It is precisely because it never cared, that people do care.  It's something which it's lacking, because that which it has, it has lackluster of.

Why was I so sure you'd be the one to hit this one?

So yep, DCW '99 "confirmed", but there's more to that in which I'll elaborate more in some days. For now, I'll leave this here to further the discussion:

Wasn't Umbra one of Shanoa's glyphs? The darkness-based one, I think.

And yeah, yunger Juilius?

Yes, it was one of her Glyphs, since "Umbra" means "darkness", literally. But this title has nothing to do with the Glyph.
Umbra is the name of the moment where the moon covers the sun completelly in an eclipse.

And...

Yes, that is young Julius Belmont.

Now the big question: is it a game, a series of sprites, a comic, an animation, etc.? :D

THAT'S the one-billion-dollar question that I'll clarify in a new thread (among other questions).

When I read the kanji I immediately thought of the eclipse behind the castle. This is exciting news indeed :D

I am sure it's a fan-game. No one makes a title like that for a one-off.

I think it's cool that much like the series of Castlevania: Dracula's Curse fan-games that we have on the dungeon, the same can be same now for Demon Castle War.

Lots of true quality titles showing up lately.

I think the sprite contest have been pushing everyone to that next level!

Right, arming myself with jisho.org the "X no Y" apparently translates to the following:
本影 = Umbra
エレジー = Elegy
So it could be translated to "Elegy of Shadows" or something like that, which tells us exactly fuck all, as per the norm with most of IGA's titles. :V

Mwahahahaha! I've been given the go signal to comment.
Thanks man, I'm glad you got that IGA vibe I was aiming for.

You know, it was kinda embarrassing failing to notice the solar eclipse in the logo when it was pretty much going "NOTICE ME I AM AN IMPORTANT CLUE".
It is precisely because it never cared, that people do care.  It's something which it's lacking, because that which it has, it has lackluster of.

Well, I try to make things as official as possible. I think I have a nice shot at telling this story on my perspective, but I may be superestimating myself here.

Game or no game, I'll still put my heart on it, because I do love this franchise a little too much for my own good :p

And you're right about the sprite contest: This place is a breeding ground for talent, holy crap o_o !

You know, it was kinda embarrassing failing to notice the solar eclipse in the logo when it was pretty much going "NOTICE ME I AM AN IMPORTANT CLUE".

But did you like the logos? Do you have any opinion to add? This goes to anyone, btw.
There is a veeeeeery specific rationale for both logos, but I'll enlighten this later. Now I wish to see your face-value reactions.

One thing that made me confident was the fact that VladCT was imediatelly able to recognize the tease sprite as a Young Julius Belmont. Some people who saw him wanted him to have that goddarn coat (Operation Akumajo style) because it's "badass" and is "what makes Julius". I think these people are wrong, and I have some reasons to think that. Cecil Kain's Julius always looked... Not-Julius to me. With all due respect to his project.

Julius is young and a tad wild on my story. The coat makes him older and overly mature, something that escapes what I want for him completelly. People seem to think that Julius was always like what Old Julius is on Aria and Dawn, but they forget that he grew older. Times change, so does people and (SPECIALLY) what they wear.

Here he wears a leather jacket, a black shirt and knee-high leather boots, but I kept his red handkerchief and he already likes his jeans. He likes listening to country music and can be quite foul-mouthed sometimes (this is a learned trait from... You'll see ;) ). I made his dressing style and his tastes to match more or less the place where Julius' was raised, but without giving it too much. I wanted him to look like what Julius would if he were younger, and this includes regressing everything about him, not just his age. This is why I find the idea of Young Julius wearing the exact same thing as he does when older a terrible idea.

And yes, I went after Shiroi-chan specifically because I knew she had familiarity with IGA's naming conventions. She's was able to hit the title bullseye without almost to no input in my part. This name conveys so much about what I imagine the DCW being about, it's not even funny.

I do quite like the logos, mostly due to how they stand out when compared to the other more recent official logos despite still following the same template (likely because there's actual effort invloved :V). By the way, the gradient blue reminds me of Koumajou Densetsu 2 (3 WHEN AJA).

Also, I immediately suspected that the teaser sprite was a young Julius because the overall color scheme is too reminiscent of our old bearded buddy.

I'm really liking the art style you're using for Julius. Also, the logo image is very well-made; looking forward to seeing where this is headed - keep it up!

That... Too lol

This design was also inspired by a drawing a friend of mine did years ago when I described who Julius Belmont was and how I imagined him when younger. His design was the first and I changed it along the time, but the core details still exist in some form on the newest iteration of Young Julius.

Here's his drawing:
