On March 20th, 1997 Akumajō Dracula X: Gekka no Yasōkyoku was released in Japan. It would later become better known as "Symphony of the Night" in other parts of the world.
A turning point for the Castlevania series and a milestone for video gaming in general, it is still loved to this day.

So now would be a good time to share thoughts or memories on the game. :)

I remember I first played it about 13 or so years after it came out, playing 30 hours over one long weekend, because the game is just that good. I really need to get around to finally playing my Saturn port I bought a few years ago.

Just wait till 2017. Then the game will be 20 years old. How old do ya feel now, eh? Anyone? Me? Yes... :P

I had no idea this game was released until me and my bro saw it at a video game rental shop. We picked it up and it was the best decision we ever made. I was skeptic at first because most games for the PS1 were 3D and I still wasn't into them yet. I'm a bit of a late-bloomer on many fronts.

I remember renting it and expecting another classicvania as I had not read much about since CV64 was what was really being covered by gaming mags.

At first I did not care for it, but then I realized it played like Metroid and became very invested. When I found the inverted dungeon I about shit my pants.

Three more years and we can get SotN totally wasted.

Playing as Alucard was one of the great experiences in gaming. Amazing how things have changed.
Time does fly. I am 42 on Monday and it makes wonder if I am the oldest guy in here. I doubt it.
Remember, you are only as old as you smell.

Remember my name and know this. I have Suffolk Down Syndrome.

Stop me if you've heard this one.
A Belmont falls through a trap door into a square prison with no exits. After hitting three sides he smashes through the last one. Relieved and low on health he looks at the camera, smiles and says......"Pork chop?"
ULTIMATE FOURTH WALL BREAK!!! That just happened!!!

I still remember picking it up from funcoland the day it came out. I played it it non stop eventually beating it with the help of my older brother. I lacked the patience for some parts. I remember getting very frustrated the first time through. I was like 12...

I also remember having to send it off to get it doctored for scratches. This was before the at home cd buffers were out. It cost me $10 to get it fixed so I could play through a second time!

It was truly a masterpiece!

I can't believe it has been this long. I was 12 when this game came out. Where is my cane? I'm getting old...
