Reading on there, it's digital-only for PS4.

...Hm. That's kinda disappointing. I was gonna go for the full $60 but I guess I'm just doing the $29 tier.

yea I agree Claimh, I was going to pledge but that complete lack of platforms AND it being digital only just rubbed me the wrong way.

Its a shame to, I'm a HUGE fan of Shenmue.

Ah, so Shenmue got the cue from Bloodstained since it essentially just wanted to see how many fans it has since it will be funded by Sony.

This has blown me away how much money it's already made. I've never played a Shenmue, are they really that good? What kind of games are they?

I have unfortunately never played them, but I have been very aware of them. They were critical successes, just not commercial successes. They basically innovated a lot of things we take for granted today, like open worlds and quick-time events. They are essentially open-world mystery RPG games that play in the vein of Zelda: Majora's Mask, but set in 1980s Japan and its neighbors. It mixes tons of gameplay mechanics like investigation, driving, fighting, etc. They look very impressive and interesting, especially for their time.

Apparently, Ryan Payton of Metal Gear Solid 4/Camouflaj's Republique fame was the one who told Shenmue's creator to originally go this route; Ryan Payton was one of the recent-ish big Kickstarter success stories with Republique. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ysnet/shenmue-3/posts/1267294
