I'm trying to do this little project that is to play all Castlevania games little by little!

The ones that are in the official timeline I'm going to play in order and the ones that are removed I can play in any order depending on what I want to play at the moment.

The first one I tried was Circle of the Moon and I'm loving the game :) It's nice to see that it got some difficult in it! You can't just play and expect to finish it without at least some retries!

My little project also includes official things that I can find on the internet and complements each game story. I tried my friend Google but I found nothing so since here is a place for lot's of fans I want to know if there is anything out there that you guys can point me out related to COTM.

If CotM was one of IGA's games then there would be a high probability that there would be some manga or back story bits to help flesh out the story more. But sadly I don't think that there is. At least not that I've heard about or seen  and it's been over a decade since it's release.

That really is a shame too. Circle of the Moon clearly had unexplored backstory, and Carmilla got more characterization in COTM than in any prior games, pretty much until she appeared in the Lords of Shadow saga.

All of it unexplored. It breaks my heart.

Too bad cause it's a awesome game. Some ppl gets mad at IGA cause he removed it from the timeline but IGA seems to be a nice guy I'm sure he just did this to make more sense in the main timeline :)

But thanks guys! It's nice to have a second opinion cause the internet is endless and what I can't find maybe someone will. Time to finish COTM and get another one to play!

I'm sure someday someone with good writing skills will appear here and fill the gaps LumiRockets :)

And you know what breaks my heart too? Konami hahahaha ahhhhh  :'(

For a game that was completely removed from the Timeline, there certainly was a LOT of open space left around this game's general date period where it could have transpired in some way.

There's no reason that OOE and COTM can't BOTH happen the 1800's, especially as the 100 Year "Rule" ended up never being conclusively followed.

If I wanted to, I could squeeze OOE, COTM, and Legacy all in there and have time to spare, especially as COTM only takes place within a 12 hour span, unlike the other two. And Legacy would have room for not being actual resurrections, as you had one False Dracula and a Soma-esque reincarnation. Killing Malus!Dracula would have returned the power to it's rightful bearer and all, allowing Dracula to be properly resurrected later, etc.

Yeah it's strange to simply remove and not think the way you just said. I'm not really good in theories of storyline so maybe IGA is just lazy like me and prefer to simplify things :) it was him that changed the Castlevania in something more easy with his Igavania style.

Hey NetSphereEngineer, cool to hear that you're playing and enjoying Circle of the Moon at the moment!  I'm about to start CotM as well as part of my Castlevania project - I'm just got the last couple of parts of the Radio Drama to listen to, then I'm starting on CotM.  It's a pity there wasn't any manga or other material to coincide with this game - even just a short manga that told the backstory would have been interesting.

That's how I've approached the timeline for my play through of all the Castlevania games:

1820 - backstory of CotM
1830 - CotM
18?? - Order of Ecclesia
1844 - Legacy of Darkness
1852 - Castlevania 64
18?? - Castlevania: The Arcade
1897 - Bram Stroker's Dracula

The 1800's ends up being a very busy period for Dracula resurrections lol  I figure Dracula might have faked his death in the arcade and then laid low, similar to what he did in Castlevania Adventure/Belmont's Revenge, so he could be around for the events of the Dracula novel.

I just figured The Arcade to be a gaiden entry that didn't have any bearing on the overall series, especially as it's never brought up in series as an actual event.

Even after you merge Legacy and CV64's entries in your timeline (Legacy also covers Reinhardt and Carrie's little adventure), that still leaves Dracula having resurrections around 1820ish as you say, then 1830ish, '44, '52, and later before '97 to drive poor Renfield insane and get the ball rolling on Bram Stoker's tale.

Busy century indeed. No wonder he's so cranky-- it's like that morning where you keep hitting the snooze button.
Everyone's just going "WAKE UP OLD MAN, WE NEED YOU TO SOW CHAOS AND REAP DESTRUCTION AND DEATH" and Dracula's all just "LET ME SLEEP YOU MOTHERF***ERS".

Poor guy.

Oh yeah, it totally is a non-canon entry like that, but I figured I'd included everything else that I could on the timeline that I figured 'why not' include it as well lol Somewhere in the 1800's just felt like the best 'fit' based on what I've seen of the game.

And yeah, Dracula is like a yo-yo being jerked around in that century :P

CotM took place in its own world from the very start which is the reason why the game was never incorporated into IGA's storyline. In that sense the game was never removed from continuity since it was never part of that specific continuity in the first place. That's why the game feels so disconnected from everything else. The same thing applies to the N64 games.

You guys are amazing! I make a simple topic and lot's of theories are already flying hahahaha

Really? I always loved Castlevania but never knew so much about the story. I remember to see some people saying that IGA removed COTM cause it was a better metroidvania game and he was not part of the development.

But if the original devs never wanted to COTM be part of the official timeline ppl were just hating IGA without thinking.

Actually I never cared about IGA so much I just know him from the Bloodstained campaign and for the little I saw in the interviews and stuff he seems like a nice guy :) Not the type that would remove a game from a timeline just because he was not part of it.

Honestly, we could do with another COTM-esque game, just a tightly done gothic Castleroid/Metroidvania that isn't burdened by canon that draws from the best elements of the series.

You know, kind of like what Lords of Shadow was advertised as being (when it was actually advertised at all) and totally wasn't.

Oh wait, that's more or less EXACTLY WHAT BLOODSTAINED IS.

Can't wait to play Bloodstained and the castle is going to be HUGE!

Since it's a IGA game alone the story will always make sense it's not going to be like Castlevania that Konami would make different teams work in the game.

I think Castlevania will die since Konami is giving up on the game industry :(

Castlevania might die, but it may also just sort of float around in the Quantum Realm until someone else manages to snag the rights.

I'd personally love a fresh take by Ninja Theory or Way Forward.

You mean some other company buy the Castlevania name to make more games? I think Konami will hold the rights to make more porn games based in the series :(

You know what would be nice? If buying games IP by fans turns a normal thing. Like we choose a nice company gives them money and then they resurrect the game!
