How about how the game ends with a completely retarded "psychological" plot twist that cops out on the entire point of the game and is just there for the sake of a plot twist? And I'm not even saying that from the perspective of "Well I'm a diehard Big Boss fanboy and I would only like this game if I were legitimately playing as Big Boss." I like MGS3, I
really like Rising (the only time the 3D games got down a consistent style imo), and I'm pretty "Yeah whatever" about the rest of the Solid games (the gameplay is fun, but they get a little too preachy for my tastes). The plot twist in V is just stupid by any standard. Watching Big Boss slowly descend into villainhood as he struggles with his grievous combat scars? Being forced to kill his own men to prevent a parasite infection from reaching the mainland? They're all good ideas, but they're completely invalidated the moment you go "SURPRISE! You're not actually Big Boss!"
How about how said dumb plot twist invalidates the entire thematic purpose of the Metal Gear Solid story arc as a whole? Sins of the father? Genetic manipulation? Patriots playing God and spending years trying to artificially breed the perfect successor to Big Boss in a lab? Oh, nevermind. That was all a colossal waste of time. All you need to do to make a flawless 1:1 copy of Big Boss (so close that the player can't even tell them apart!) is take some rando chopper medic and throw Big Boss' face on him with plastic surgery.
Or how about the fact this is a multi-million dollar budget AAA game in Anno Domini two thousand fucking fifteen and it pulls the "loop the player back to the beginning of the playthrough and make them replay the entire main game with incremental difficulty before they can see the proper ending" Bravely Default/Ghosts n Goblins thing to artificially extend its content?
And whatever else I've been bitching about
on my blog.
