Hulu Plus on PS4

I'm just wondering if anyone else uses this app on PS4?

We're Hulu Plus and Netflix users. We pretty much do this for all of TV needs. Use both apps across a wide range of devices. Apple TV, Wii, PS4, PS Vita, a Kindle fire and others. The apps work great on everything with the exception of Hulu Plus on the PS4.

It's horrid. It constantly becomes corrupted and needs to be re-installed. And when it does work, it often looks pixelated and freezes for loading constantly. We're often forced to grab our Apple TV from the bedroom whenever we want to watch something on Hulu Plus in the living room.

With the Apple TV it's always clear and never freezes.

I want to blame the app itself but we only have these problems on the PS4. It's pretty frustrating having to turn off our $400 machine and hook up the $99 Apple TV just to watch shows on Hulu.

Does anyone else have this problem with their PS4?

I've been getting pissed at my PS4 lately to be honest. Not being able to download the movies you buy onto it is absolutely ridiculous. We're not even able to watch the movies we've paid money for on our PS4 when the internet goes out (which happens from time to time). You could download the movies and shows you bought on the PS3, and Hulu always worked fine... And the controllers die so much faster! We're constantly charging these damn controllers. And I've had two plugs on the charger wires go out. Which is another thing that never happened to me with the PS3 controllers.

It seems like they fucked up some really basic things with PS4.

It's really starting to drive me nuts.

Yep. Hulu on PS4 suuuuuuucks. Really badly. It makes me thankful that both my PS3 and my Wii U are hooked up. It's completely inexcusable how bad the app is on PS4. It runs perfectly on both my PS3 and my Wii U. Hell, even on my phone and computer it's perfect. It's JUST the PS4 where it runs like crap.

Though, yeah, I doubt it's the PS4 that's the problem. Literally everything else on my PS4 runs just fine. It's JUST Hulu that runs horribly.

And the controllers die so much faster! We're constantly charging these damn controllers. And I've had two plugs on the charger wires go out. Which is another thing that never happened to me with the PS3 controllers.

Dim the light bars and turn off the controller speakers (both features I find somewhat useless anyway). Doing both of these made my controller battery life last... I'd say roughly twice as long? I know I go a few days before NEEDING to charge them, at any rate.

The PS4 in general is actually a pretty shitty console that constantly does things you don't want it to do, or does something you want wrong, or it just plain doesn't do what it's supposed to at all. I never noticed a problem with the Hulu Plus app myself, but I stopped using it when my PS4 got too problematic in general.

Now I use a trio of Chromecasts (one in each room with an HDMI compliant monitor) as a much cheaper solution for streaming as practically everyone in my family and circle of friends has A) a smartphone, B) a tablet, C) a laptop, or D) all of the above.

That the PS4 has sold so well despite having endless issues with service outages, software glitches, or contradictory settings vs actual behavior is a testament to Sony's marketing department's ability to sweep all that under the rug, and also testament to the critical stopping power of Microsoft's major early blunders regarding used games and loaned games. My PS4 is now collecting dust due to the endless problems (all of which having cost me not-insignificant sums of money) it's given me over the years since launch.

So, TL;DR:

No, I have never noticed an issue with the Hulu Plus app, but I never used it much to begin with and given how buggy and disobedient the PS4 system is as a whole I can't say I'm surprised.
How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

I always access Hulu Plus directly from my smart TV, so no problems there (except for a few, which is probably from Hulu's end), but I guess I definitely won't use the PS4 for it now, lol.

My PS4 is weird about Netflix, though. Like it usurped ultimate control of the program. I try to access Netflix from the TV, and the PS4's always like, "hey, I got this," and takes over from there. But if I shut off the PS4 and go straight to Netflix from the TV, it never works anymore...it always gives me an error message. Nothing that keeps me from watching shows or anything, but now I have to access it through my PS4. Nothing like using a remote control and a controller to watch TV, huh?  :-\
