And on another note, do you think my Symphony of the Night fanfiction makes Maria too trivial?

No one forcing you to play easy mode (Maria).

It's another aspect of the game - while it may be easier, it adds further replayability, so I wouldn't say it makes the game trivial.

Nah; she makes the game easier, but she dies faster compared to Richter.  Then again, it's been years since I played as Maria (I always choose Richter because I'm a sucker for the classic Belmont).

I suddenly realized I've never played as Maria :v I dislike her adult self a bit, but that's probably because of the legendary voice acting in SOTN.  :P

Fanfiction? Can I get links? -wink wink-

I don't think it's trivial. It's just a different mode of play for Rondo. And SotN when you think about it. In fact with the release of DXC it's kinda switched around a bit. While Maria is easy mode on Rondo, her SotN counterpart would be considered hard mode because she is so under-powered. But even if you play as Maria in Rondo you still have to be careful as you can get caught of-guard fairly easily in certain areas.

She doesn't. Like everyone else said, she's it's another mode, another character with another playstyle. Richter is the default game, you find Maria and you have an extra mode essentially. Plus, her cutscenes are all different from Richter, giving the player even more replay value besides just using her for the sake of using her new playstyle for a bit. You can start a game, save everyone and beat Dracula with Richter, then start a new game, save Maria and then save the girls and beat Drac with Maria.

While I think Rondo is a bit overrated, Maria is one of the best things about the game. Her control and attacks are so vastly different from Richter that it isn't boring to play the game again with her. And like other said above, she take more damage than Richter, which balances it out a bit.

Agreed. Plus she gets the "funky" ending  :P

btw, what do you guys think happens to Maria's pixels when she just sort of dissolves into the ether in her death animation in RoB? Like, Richter just sort of flies backward and dissolves into blood, and it's cool if he wants to swing that way, but I don't really get Maria's deal.

How exactly does being a distant relative of a vampire hunting family give someone Fushigi Yuugi powers?
