A lot of games have come out this year. Unfortunately, I didn't get to play as many of them as I'd have liked, but I still have an idea of the top 5 games that have come out this year that I'd personally rank as the best. So I thought I'd share them and see what all you would rank as your top 5 for the year.
No rules other than the obvious rule that the game has to have released within the span of January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2016.
Also included what platform I played the game on.
#5 - God Eater: Resurrection (PSV)I was pretty damn excited about this, as I was a huge fan of God Eater Burst when it released stateside back in 2010. I thought the west pretty much gave up on the franchise, though, as God Eater 2 came out way back in 2012 in Japan, and was re-released as God Eater 2: Rage Burst in 2013, and then God Eater: Resurrection came out in Japan in 2015. On top of that, an anime was made. To my surprise, both Rage Burst and Resurrection came over to the west in 2016, and the anime is being dubbed on top of it.
While I haven't gotten my hands on Rage Burst yet, I picked up Resurrection as I wanted to replay the first game first. And man, is it as fun as ever. On top of the fluid gameplay from the original, several new gameplay maneuvers have been added that really make the game more fluid and fun than ever, while still keeping up that really high difficulty level. The game is a blast co-op, as well, and the entire game's voice track has been redone. While the original voice track was pretty good, it's better than ever here and makes the story much more enjoyable to view.
#4 - Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (PS4)While I enjoyed the hell out of all the previous Uncharted games, I'd never put any of them in any form of "favorite games" list, but Uncharted 4 was a hell of an experience. It took everything I hated about the previous Uncharted games and got rid of it, making it one of the best games I've played in a very long time. On top of having absolutely breathtaking graphics, the story is better than ever, having the first villain I've actually given a crap about in the series.
As well, the gameplay has been refined and polished up, so no more random sticking to things in the environment. Gunplay is smooth, and enemies don't just appear out of nowhere anymore, getting rid of the "frustrating firefight" theme from all the previous entries. Add onto this the stealth system and the grappling hook mechanic and combat is far more fun than it has ever been in the franchise.
And man, that final boss fight was pretty intense.
#3 - Overwatch (PS4/PC)Let me be the first to say that I'm not a fan of playing competitive online games. I've just never liked playing them online, whether it be shooters, fighting games, sports games, etc. Overwatch is a completely different story though. I have a hell of a lot of fun playing the game. I love the colorful cast of characters, the humor, the lore, all of it. It's the most fun I've had in an online shooter ever that I simply had to get it a second time for my PC, as I currently don't have access to my PS4.
#2 - Death Road to Canada (PC)This game was a surprising gem to me. I normally hate indie retro-themed zombie survival games. They normally all suck really badly and are full of the worst gimmicks ever. Death Road to Canada, though, is one of the most addicting games I've played in years. It's simple, it's repetitive, it's brutally difficult, it's filled to the brim with RNG, and it's the most fun I've had with a game in a long time.
#1 - Final Fantasy XV (XBONE)There was a lot I didn't like about this game. It was unfinished, it completely fell apart in the latter half, the camera work is
brilliant (he said sarcastically), the final boss fight was incredibly easy... but man, this was the most fun I had playing a game all year, and the most fun I've had in an RPG in a long time. When I started this game, I simply couldn't put it down. I was hooked on the game, and didn't stop even after I finished it. I only did because I rented it and had to return it.
Yeah, this is the only one on the list I have any major problems with, but I cannot deny I had more fun with this game than any other game on the list. I love it, and I really hope the future free updates really flesh the game out and make it what it should have been to begin with.

That being said, I'm curious to know what you guys thought about gaming this year. What are your top 5 games of 2016? Hell, what do you think of my wonky ass list?
