Actually, to be honest, I don't remember LOI's story too well, but I think I recall Mathias' story being similar to the one in Bram Stoker's tale (that is, if Coppola's film is faithful, since I haven't read the book, lulz), but somehow made really dumb. It just bothers me.

Actually the novel really

That idea is at best silly.  I have read dracula many times.  Dracula was very evil.  Look at what he did to Renfield.  He was using Jon to get his home in England.  There is no doubting that he was going to kill Jon, as he and his wives had killed before.  He would never have agreed to feed off of only animals, in most vampire folklore/fiction they can't gain sustenance from animals.  Dracula was evil.  evil as can be, he needed to be taken out.

He didn't just kill Jon for the same reason bad guys never just shoot James Bond.  it would be a very short boring story.  Dracula is obsessed with his lost wife.  I have read the book as I said before.  And no, I never said that anyone who loses a loved one should go on a killing spree, I said that it is very disrespectful of you to call someone being so upset at the death of their spouse a pussy, and it is.  His initial reaction was completely understandable, but over time he went insane with grief.

1 dimensional characters are "bad ass" when you're 7.  People with actual intelligence and a love for storytelling prefer characters with motivation.  As a creative writing major I find 1 dimensional "evil characters as a cop out for a writer who can't think of an interesting back story.

Being evil for evil's sake is the dumbest thing possible.  No one, NO ONE thinks of themselves as doing the wrong thing.  They do what they do because in their mind it is what's right.  Even Adolf Hitler thought what he was doing was for the greater good.  You need motivation, or your just another 13 year old fanfic writer.

I have a feeling of pity for Mathias, up until he has Sarah killed.  Even less after he murders thousands of humans in 1476.  He has a sad past, but that hardly makes us justify his slaughter of so many humans.

Does every kid that gets picked on at school snap and shoot up the place? Every single one? Hell no. Has it happened? Yes.

You are so out of touch with who CV Dracula is. Yes they use the Stoker novel as a basis. A BASIS.

For someone trying to be so pedantic, you seem to forget that Bloodlines (where all this Stoker nonsense came from) says that Quincey

Darth Vader is in no way shape or form a 1 dimensional character.  He has three whole movies of back story.

And as I said, Mathias goes insane from grief.  It happens sometimes.  There have been people who go crazy from the loss of a spouse.  In Cv Mathias is one of them.  And thanks to that, the whole castlevania story comes out, in a chronological sense.

not if you go from the first one, he's just some random guy that killed Luke's dad. It wasn't until later when they decided that he was Luke's dad and they wanted to show us what he was like before he embraced the DS that they started adding backstory. If You go from a new hope he's just a thug and it works because of the performance and superb acting. Action figures skyrocketed of DV when ANH came out and people were already wearing DV t-shirts.

New Hope was one part of the story.  It was never meant as a stand alone.  So your logic makes no sense.  They don't have to give a character backstory right away.  They can wait until far later in the story to introduce.  Like say... 17 years into a video game franchise.  ;)

No, regardless of whether he knew he'd have the money he had it written as more than a stand alone.  Hell, Mark Hamill said in an interview that Lucas had stories written for up to episode nine done while filming the first movie.

Yes, but regardless if he meant to make him one dimensional or not.  Darth Vader is a very very 3 dimensional character, and he would not be as loved if he had remained as 1 dimensional as he started.
