I really don't understand why there's so much negativity about this announcement.

Negativity? So far I've seen just valid criticism (except for the rampant Alucard fanboyism).

Being a fan doesn't mean praising a shitty game (like Judgment) just because you're fan. But it doesn't mean we should graciously accept any bone that rejuvenates the series without any sort of questioning.

I want a new style for Castlevania. But I want it to remember its roots. I'm not saying much about this since the information is scarce at the moment, but completely ignoring the origin story and "rebirthing" don't ring completely sweet in my ear.

The game looks fantastic and obviously more money is on the table. Without a doubt it will appeal to more people, sparking interest in the series. But as a CV fan I think of it from the whole serie's perspective.

Here's an article with a good recap of the storyline:
http://www.virginmedia.com/games/gamingnews/news-story.php?storyid=39057421

I'm actually intimidated at the thought of playing this game.  The giant creatures look very daunting (how in the heck are you supposed to fight THEM?) not to mention the high speed adventures on the back of a wolf.  It doesn't look like it's in my comfort zone like Curse of Darkness was.  Way more exciting actually.  It'll be a good ride.

It does mention "It is written that a pure hearted warrior will claim the power of the Lords of Shadow as his own." If this isn't apart of IGA storyline it will mention it because Mathias in his own right was a pure hearted warrior (not a fighter but he did participate in the Crusades) and he did claim the power of darkness as his own. So far Im getting the feeling that this story will be a departure and make a new storyline strong enough to stand on its own. So I guess in a sense it would be a side story.

You make an excellent point. While I realize that the development team may not be directly copying any aspect of the pre-existing Castlevania games, but look at Gabriel. I'm thinking that he does resemble a younger version of the CotM Dracula. Still, Gabriel's wife died at the hands of a monster, obviously, not humans. As such, it's still a little hard to believe that Gabriel holds any sort of grudge against humanity and eventually becomes Dracula.

I'm expecting more of an Anakin Skywalker approach, in which Gabriel submits to the "Dark Side" in order to save the one he loves, still ultimately losing her.

I found this at http://e3.gamespot.com/story/6210520/new-castlevania-ps3-pc-mgs-rising-revealed-at-konami-event-live

its a step by step of what happened during the konami conference to shed some light on happened there since i haven't been able to find any video of it.

As you can tell the crowd gets really excited when it is revealed to be a Castlevania title.

It should be available in video form HERE at some point. People can say what they want about G4, but they had one of the better live-blogs going yesterday.

Am I the only one who thinks the amount of masturbation that takes place for Alucard and SotN is hilarious? Seriously, just because it's not a SotN rehash (like we need more of those) doesn't mean this new CV won't kick ass. Honestly, are we Castlevania fans, or Trekkies? And by Trekkies, I'm talking about the self-absorbed kind who have precision to detail so great that they could fix the hubble telescope in five minutes, and are more worried about canon than good storytelling.

I agree.

Shelving what has come before is a good thing, in some regards.

I agree. Really, as much as I love the Castlevania series, its storyline is a complete mess. Plus, some of the games haven't aged well. It'd be kinda cool, in my opinion, if this ended up being a complete reboot of the series, with some of the earlier games being remaded and reimagined.

SotN is my favorite game in the series, but that doesn't automatically mean that I flock to anything with Alucard in it. I can't stand AoS or DoS, for the record. Really, is it so hard for some people to understand that not all people who enjoy SotN are simply blinded by nostalgia?

That said, though, I do welcome any change to the series. Furthermore, I'm glad that the developers have found a healthy balance in character design by not making Gabriel into some sort of metrosexual or a Conan the Barbarian wannabe.

Some of you think the series plot is a mess? How so? It's really not that difficult to understand. Anyone with a brain can figure out what's going on.

Yeah reboots happen all the time, and most of you fellers seem excited about it. But lets see who's still on the bandwagon in the end if this new plotline doesn't meet their expectations. One thing I learned is that CV fans are fickle as fuck.

Dumbed down gameplay? Similar to metal gear solid? All you have to do is watch the video. It isn't sneaking around, it isn't going into first person. I see no similarity. There is swinging and whipping and spinning and jumping. Haha and since when has CV ever had a very in depth fighting system. Not much to dumb down.
Go. Set Forth! Both your own life and hers are at stake.

It's not a matter of knowing what's going on. I mean, how about John Morris following his dad across the countryside as a toddler? Remember that? Yeah...

I'd like to point out to some of you here that have their disbelief of there being no dark monsters in this game
So far this artwork proves some of that to me

One thing is for sure
I don't see any bats

Little details like that don't really matter (was that even shown in ANY game?). Still doesn't explain why the entire plot is a "mess".

Erm...perhaps the "mess" part comes from the fact that the developers can't even keep track of the timeline to see such an inaccuracy? Really, it's far too difficult to put additional storylines into the overall storyline, which is why Soma exists.
