Actually, the person is wrong (spoilers): his wife was killed by a man that had something against Dante. The 'spirit' was the devil, who she promised her soul to if Dante betrayed her and his promise to her. He did, so the devil came to collect her, so Dante went to save her, not avenge anything.

And being gabriel a descendant from the Cronqvist family,so *IGA's messy storyline relation coming* he could be believed to be ancestor to both Leon Belmont and Mathias? So, after all, Belmont's and Dracula's bloodlines share a common ancestor? interesting

Then it happens again in Legends. This explains increases in power in the Belmonts. Gabriel is a magical being, that explains Leon's supernatural double jump that he can do initially, with Sonia, that explains increased powers including a menu by Jonathan Morris's time (though Trevor had a rather petite one a few years after he defeated Dracula). Julius forgot how to use a menu because he's an old fart.
