bah, I don't think you shouldn't worry as much as I like to say otherwise because I think any other magazine bounced off the walls in excitement for this game

because its epic

I don't really see why the "here's what you missed" counter is a bad design decision. Sure it makes the game a tad easier, but most 100% completionists would grab an "Upgrade FAQ" anyways. This way the upgrades don't go completely missed, and at the same time you aren't replaying stages you already have gotten everything in.

Yeah, its one of the few things I actually like about it, because I hate not beating a game without a full 100 % completion rate.   :(

That video's been posted like 3 times already.

I hope you're being sarcastic.

It's okay, it sacrifices the mystique or mystery of hidden items, but I can deal with it. Not like they're attempting to make an icebergvania.

Some quotes:

"Reaching out for the masses can be seen in a few decisions. The stages are linear pipes, so you won't see too much of Castlevania-ish back-and-forth treks. At the end of a sequence upgrades and weapons in a given stage are revealed, so dedicated adventurers can return to acquire everything. This design choice is a cute attempt at playing to both the nerds and the masses."

"Castlevania is being made by the Spanish Mercury Steam, which in their games Clive Barker's Jericho (60/100) and American McGee's Scrapland (66/100) borrowed influences from many top-quality games without succeeding at making other people's ideas their own. Now in addition to God of War, Shadow of the Colossus and Prince of Persia are being borrowed from quite shamelessly."

Apperently they like the boss battles.

I can smell the 1997 fan from miles away.

^ Seconded.

This is exactly the reason why I hate gaming journalism.

really now

the whole comparison thing is pretty valid from what i've seen and the linearity thing, it's kinda a current gaming trend to frown on linearity anyway isn't it. the comparison thing was even mentioned in a positive preview.
from what i got from peklofish, the rest of the preview was fairly neutral anyway.

The guy that wrote that review sounds a tad like a condescending jerk to be honest. Proper points made aside, he just sounds like an ass. LOL.

Ironically, I bet that's what reviewers/fans will complain about the most. "Stages are too linear, not enough exploration," etc.
