Somebody posted on Ign's PS3 message board that the right analog stick will be used to control the whip. Was that really confirmed? I hope not. I can't even see how that would work.

From Ign Preview in GamesCom
Quote
Gamescom unfortunately isn't home to any gameplay demos -- just the new trailer and interviews -- but Cox opens up about controls. He refers to the PS3 control scheme for the purposes of my preview. Gabriel is manipulated with the controller's analog stick. Asked about what the right stick does, he says, "I can't say." I suggest that it seems ideal for precise directional whip control and he agrees. Square is for short-range directional attacks; triangle ranged attacks, X jumps, and circle uses secondary weapons like the aforementioned daggers and holy water. You won't need to worry about camera controls because the angles are fixed.

Well, it seems it could be used for this purpose.

Can't you at least attempt to be helpful in your posts?

Where would be the fun in that?

How did masks play an important role in the orginal Castlevania?

Good question! In the original Castlevania games when you got to Dracula I always thought he was wearing a mask. I appreciate that this is open to interpretation but I have seen original concept art that was released in Japan that supports that theory.

I totally called that one.

Soo...

Does anyone else think that the mask could be the same one Dracula wears in the earlier games? Just speculation of course, but that may be a connection to those parts of the series, and an explanations as to WHY Dracula has a mask.

That's a high horse hes standing on. So high I cant see the top.

He pretty much just came out and trashed the last 15 years of Castlevania and 2D gaming all in one shot.

Dick move Cox. Dick move.

Not really, he just trashed 1994 gaming being using in 2009. As for the 2D gaming hit, well, 2D games tend not to sell as much as 3D games nowadays. That's a fact. I'm not saying it's a good thing or a bad thing, but if we're talking financial, 2D Castlevania doesn't sell as much as we wish it would. That's probably why Adventure Rebirth is WiiWare.

He wasn't on a high horse at all, he was just frank. Castlevania doesn't sell well, and 2D isn't selling either. Theres nothing wrong with Konami trying to make a successful game rather than appease fans (who will never be happy anyway).

Interesting that Cox says they have set the game before LoI...so if that's the case, that means Leon wasn't the first Belmont to have this sort of mission (unless Gabriel really is not a Belmont afterall), and also...no Dracula  >:(

Then again, this game isn't supposed to be canon, so who knows.

Maybe IGA will do something about that.  :'( I like canon.

I'm surprised Cox didn't come here to talk with us. This is, after all, the biggest Castlevania community on the internet, is it not?

It ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT mean no Dracula. Why can people not understand this? Something that applied to the old timeline makes NO difference here. The fact that he didn't flat out say no Dracula basically conforms that Dracula WILL appear in the game in an extremely surprising way, most likely someone we did not expect. Just let the game build it up, you don't need to know everything.

It's bizarre that if he had just given it a date and said "it's canon" without any more say, fans would be happier, and find ways to tie it in and reasons it exists. Would you have flipped if Ecclesia was not canon? It might as well not have been. Also, he said no to Frankenstein and mummy, but NOT TO DEATH AND MEDUSA HEAD. You guys don't know how to be grateful.
Go. Set Forth! Both your own life and hers are at stake.

I did like how he basically said that Death was in the game without actually saying it. I mean, after reading through some of the Anti-Chapel responses, I'm a bit surprised at how much they say it has NOTHING to do with Castlevania.

It has a Belmont wielding a whip
It has traditional monsters such as Death and Medusa Heads
It has destructible items, namely the furniture, that drops items.
It has humorous gags to break up the serious mood
It has new arrangements of classic music

Now the only thing I can see people having grounds to complain is the slightly more medieval aesthetic, which frankly, isn't that big a deal. If anything, it keeps some of the slight anachronisms out of the games. I mean, nobody is going to be dressed like Leon in the 10th century.

I agree and he is right in a way.  The castlevania games were getting a bit stale after the last few games.  It isn't Iga's fault, but I think most of it has to do with Konami using the same 2d formula, following the chronology, and catering to the fans.  I think a CV that isn't restricted by canon and fanservice would turn out better than one that does.

No offense, but the recent 2d titles feel like fanfiction whereas the plot is convoluted to the point where it doesn' matter as long as the familar badguys and gameplay are around
