I actually liked the barbarian look. If he looked exactly like the cover art, or even the NECA figure, that little part of me that revels in 80s nostalgia would've been super hyped.

Though, I can honestly say I don't mind Gabriel's look.

Yeah, I dig barbarians too. I'm actually a bit fond of Gabriel's design too. I just find his personality banal.
Of course, you can say that about any Castlevania protagonist~ Except Simon, whose personality is brilliantly shown when he whips off Dracula's head.

Visuals are very impressive graphically, though sort of lacking in a subjective "charm." The action is still comical with Gabriel waving this combat cross around like a child's streamer...and all those whirlwind-magic combos are just ridiculously powerful and lacking in a sense of physical impact on the enemies.

+1

That's my thoughts exactly. I want to hear a snap of the good ol' leather whip with echo of bones falling on the stone floor.

Magical light show could be used sparely only for the special weapons. I'd also like to see Gabriel sitting legs crossed on the Baroque chair

and reading some Ann Rice in the castle library ;D

Well Gabe's whip is made of chain so it might be more dirrerent than a leather whip. In fact his whip isn't really a whip anyway, it's just a hookshot which he uses as a whip as well as a key and a stake to kill vampires with.

And Gabriel doesn't have time to sit around, he's got half the underworld in a castle out to feast on his ass while trying to bring his hot wife back to life.

This aint no IGA after school special anymore, this shit is serious.

Gabriel is great. Though on a somber quest of vengeance, he still manages to visually enjoy life's simpler pleasures, like cleaving through a butcher demon's head with its own weapon. (seriously, did anyone else see that awesome smirk?)

Also, the leather whip is a lame piece of shit. There's a reason why you only ever had it for two seconds at a time back in the old games, and why Richter, Juste, and and Julius just flat-out didn't have one at all.

But the older games didn't need hookshot whips. ;_;

It's not a hookshot. It just retracts instead of curls...

Obviously, this game is copying from Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom.

Dude...... I FREAKING LOVED IT.

I mean, after one or two go it won't scream play again... at least not in single player ( i never played multi ) but I absolutely loved it. I do plan on playing it again if I could ever get myself to pick up the controller... which is not happening a lot. Haven't touched my 360 for a while.

You should play it without patches though... you can fuse things to become powerful. While they limit it in patches, and I still found fun with such power... and then.... I start doing boss runs lol. Just like Diablo 2.

That is obvious. The Necromancer IS NOT the man on the throne, is the skeleton in red robes from screenshots, and that's not near to be Dracula, is more like Death, however, he's not him.

He answered your question, you just asked wrong ;)

Everything comes full circle

Oh well. I figured it might have been the case since Dracula(?) wears skeleton thingies on his armour. The reason why I thought the Necromancer was Dracula was because he has been depicted as a skeleton in early games, like in Vampire Killer and SCVIV after Simon bruatly whips of his face. So perhaps it was like

Necromancer + mask = Dracula

But I guess not.  :-X
