I wonder if the Necromancer will be nicknamed "the Angel of Death" in the game's lore.

You guys its not even worth asking. It shows the guy in the throne, you hear jason issacs voice, saying "die belmont" and every other voice actors character is listed but dracula. it is pretty obvious.
Go. Set Forth! Both your own life and hers are at stake.

Yes, Dracula's existence in LOS is the last of my concerns, because he'll be there, one way or another, that's simply the heart of the CV mythos in itself :)

no it's actually an evil manlier alucard
you see, alucard became the dark lord and actually won, and thus, destroyed the world so god was pissed so he made everything he could restarted. so now alucard is just chilling waiting for the belmonts to re-appear so he can defeat them again and take over, except this time he wont destroy the world because he's like best buds with god and doesn't wanna nag him again. god was like, "yo not cool. that first world blowing stuff. dont do it again. you hear?"

Does nobody remember Lament of Innocence? Was Dracula in that game? NO. It was Walter's castle, Walter's "game" with the hunters, etc. The only REMOTE mention of Dracula was the hint at the end of the game that Matthias became Drac centuries later.

What does this mean? It means that there CAN BE a Castlevania game WITHOUT Dracula! Don't get me wrong, I really hope Drac makes some sort of appearance beyond mere conjecture or reference in LoS but be prepared if that dosen't happen. Who knows who the main/final boss will be?

I'm just saying...don't be shocked or upset if Dracula isn't in LoS. They could very well be keeping him out of it intentionally, to bait us for the sequel...

Exactly. I mean, how many other Castlevania games did NOT have Dracula as the final boss? LoI, (I know Soma is Drac, but still) AoS, and DoS. Sure, no Dracula might be disappointing a bit, but if the game has a a good enough plot and gameplay, then that'll be the least of my worries.

But, Dracula WAS in LoI. Even the games Dracula's NOT in, he IS in. There's Soma in the Sorrow games and Matthias was most definitely Dracula. Don't let the absense of Dracula's name fool you. Remember, IGA's entire reason for making LoI was to describe WHY Dracula was an estimated 800 years old in RoB and SotN, and establish the origin to why the Belmonts and Dracula are locked in an eternal struggle. You don't fight Dracula, but he's there, nonetheless.

itd be a huge mistake to not have drac in LoS. Theyre tryin to reboot the entire franchise and start completely over fresh for a new generation of the series. To NOT have THE MAIN bad guy the series has always been about not to mention THE vampire of all vampires would be utterly retarded

Its one thing to not have Dracula in a sequel or in Laments case a prequel, but when its a brand new game with no ties to the rest of them, its probably a good idea to have him in it. I have faith he will be

Dave Cox loved the old games where it was all about a lone warrior fighting supernatural thingies with a whip. I think Dracula was a BIG part in why Cox ever loved the first games, just like the rest of us. IGA did things differently because he was trying too hard to flesh out a storyline that stretched for a 1000 years. Now we're back to basics, so if Dracula is not there I'd be shocked. It won't matter if the game is awesome, but I will still be very surprised.

As I've said before, there will be Dracula, but perhaps not OUR Dracula, the one inspired on Bram Stoker's tale, just a new guy called Dracula, that's it, and I'll be happy :)

That's not quite the impression I got. The story of LoI involves a power struggle over the Castle. I thought it was implied that Vlad Tepes, a different person, would come to rule the Castle and the power of 'Death' some centuries later on.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but there wasn't anything that actually implied that Matthias = Dracula, right?  :-X

Anyways, I'm not worried about the inclusion / exclusion of Dracula in LoS until I see everything in context. :)

True, but I felt like that simply explained the genesis of Belmonts doing what they do. :)
There was all sorts of stuff about needing some ruby (or some crap) to rule the Castle, and the struggle between Matthias and that other vampire was a key part to the story. Perhaps I'm guilty of reading between the lines myself, but I could've sworn they were setting up a story in which Dracula rises to power. I guess it could really go either way, since there wasn't sufficient enough detail to explain what's what. Between CV3 and SotN, at least, they were set on Dracula = Vlad Tepes.

Matthias was never referred to as either, making me think he was meant to be a short lived ruler of Castlevania. Keep in mind this came out while the story of AoS and DoS were fresh in IGA's mind, which expanded the universe to also exist after Dracula. I think with LoI, he was expanding it in both directions, and setting up an origin story for Dracula's (since he wrote off Legends) reign of all things evil (as well as 1999, the end). *shrugs*

Lament of Innocence made it pretty clear that Mathias is/becomes Dracula, and I remember being really pissed about it because I thought that was the most retarded Dracula origin story I'd ever heard.

Well, not the most retarded, since it borrowed heavily from Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula, if I'm remembering correctly, but there was something they'd done with the story that made it really stupid to me—something involving an orb or stone or something. I'm playing through the game right now, so I guess my memory will be refreshed soon. :p

Anyway, Dracula is Castlevania. He's more the focal point than the Belmonts, I'd say. If Lords of Shadow doesn't have him, that would be insanely ridiculous for a reboot.
