I didn't use it immediately after I killed the wolves so I was able to explore around a lil bit

60 fps usually means better controls too because of the heightened responsiveness too, and usually more of an emphasis on efficiency in its development. imo, more fluidity is better for visuals than pretty locales. but yeah, opinion.

Thinking about it, I guess it really deppends on the type of game you are playing. Take one of those frantic japanese vertical shooters, Ikaruga for example, you really need to react at the freaking light speed most of the time... there is no discussion there, more FPS = better response = less frustration, better gaming experience. A videogame like LoS, on the other hand, while being an action game with obvious fast paced segments, relies heavily on visual atmosphere and details, in my opinion. Sacrificing some fps (to a certain point) in favor of richer visuals seems like a pretty good deal to me in this case. Efficiency is desiderable, but balanced with some knowing-what-you-want-to-deliver (and paying the price XD). A perfect example of this is Shadow of the Colossus.

well, tried the demo.  i guess a minor irritation of mine is that i'm forced to play at the pace the game wants me to.  my usual style of play for a 3D Castlevania is kill everything in site, then walk around the place for a few minutes and soak up the environment.  well, not only can i not aim the camera around to see what i want to see, but i can't even stop and admire the backgrounds peacefully without an enemy disturbing me.  as soon as you kill the last enemy, a cut scene sweeps you off to your next encounter.  i respect what they did to keep the pace of the game going, but i do look forward to the next game that is made that allows me to do these things.

something else along those lines is the fact that there's only one time in the demo where i could practice the moves in peace - just before the first health fountain.  and i didn't have many moves at that point.

maybe this is all just peculiar to the tutorial section?

Hey, how does the atmosphere compare to Castlevania 64/Legacy of Darkness? Does it play with a spooky, medieval vibe?

well, it's dark and i think the rain effects in the first part of the demo would be something Castlevania 64 would be proud of.  yeah, a rainy starting stage is somewhat reminiscent of Castlevania 64's starting stage.  then the horseback riding is reminiscent of Richter's stage 0 when he first fights death on a carriage in the rain.  its a good start to having a good vibe i think, and for sure a multitude of different types of vibes.

Maybe we just wait until the game comes out, then put together our own reviews.

Those who PLAY Castlevania may be biased, but I am sure it'd be more accurate, objective, and enlightening to listen to than these Yahoos.

The only thing I'm worried about if the freeze during the finishers on the 360 version. If they're as common as he says and as potent as they look, it's a bit upsetting. I can imagine he chose the worst two to prove a point, but I'm a tad worried.

And that, my friends, is an ironic case of how a negative review can get people fired from their jobs. Not developers this time, but an editor, LOL.

Um, as a fellow account holder, I concur...I recant my original said insult of "Yahoo" and hereby replace it with....hmm...let's see...Morons.  I am sure the military's official classification for one not even suited to be cannon fodder is appropriate, no?
